Dámaso Zabalza (1835 - 1894) Espagne Dámaso Sabalza ( Spanish Dámaso Zabalza y Olaso ; 1835, Irurita, now part of the municipality of Bastán - 1894) - Spanish pianist, composer and music teacher.
He studied in Pamplona with Casimiro Sagabeta and Luis Vidaola (piano), and with Mariano Garcia (harmony). From the age of 14 he played the organ in the cathedral of the city of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port . From 1858 he lived and worked in Madrid, gave concerts as a soloist and ensemble player, and performed at the court of Queen Maria Christina .
Author of the zarzuela "The Village" ( Spanish: El caserío ; 1861) and numerous piano pieces, both didactic and for salon and concert purposes, often based on Basque musical folklore. He was also a professor of piano at the Madrid Conservatory , among his students was José Valls .
Zabalza's name is shared by a street ( Spanish: Calle de Dámaso Zabalza ) in Pamplona and a community centre in the village of Elizondo in the municipality of Baztán. (Hide extended text)...(Read all)
