Armando Neves is one of the greats of the guitar soloist of popular character in Brazil. After going through periods alternated between great recognition - especially when he was hired by Radio Record - and ostracism, his works gradually come again receiving recognition guitarists as the Scotsman David Russell. Alipio Neves Brazilian child with the Italian Mathilde Colcone Neves, Armando Neves lived in Campinas, São Paulo, until the age of 19, where he completed primary school and cultivated his two great passions: football and music.
He started by May Day Football Club. Until 1929 - the year he decided to devote himself exclusively to music - would play also the Santo Amaro Football Club, Sport Club Corinthians Paulista (a short pass) and São Bento Futebol Clube.
The interest in the guitar took place around 1919, when he attended a performance of Américo Jacomino with hillbilly trio Viterbo-Abigail-Lefty. The following year got a guitar and, on the advice of his teacher, he began studying the instrument in the manner which he maintained throughout his life: 'by ear', without reading sheet music.
