Ajoutée par lrubarth, 09 Mar 2023 This mystical guitar piece called "En Sumag Palacio" is a traditional song from Ecuador and in my video I play a version arranged for solo guitar by my dear friend Bernhard Fechner (1959-2022). Depending on the context, the Quechua word "sumag" or "sumak" means "good", "beautiful" or it can even be translated as "plentiful". According to some sources, the song title means "In my spacious palace", or perhaps rather "In the beautiful palace". As far as I remember, Bernhard told me that he had learned the song a long time ago from his Bolivian or Ecuadorian friend Alfredo. Interestingly, I've never heard anyone else playing this song, and I haven't found any other recording on the internet. He told me about his plan to record an accompaniment on a second guitar track, and I even found the tabs of his duo version, but I think in the end he decided to keep it simple and stuck to the solo version. His home recording was actually supposed to be a test recording for his next album, which he wanted to record in the Nicolai-Chapel in Soest (Germany). However, I really love Bernhard's recording and I think it shows that he was not only a great composer, but also a very passionate and skillful guitarist and experienced arranger. |
