| Ajoutée par douglas-brooks-davies, 23 Mai 2018 Vaclav (or Wenzel) Pichl was born in Bohemia in 1741 and spent most of his working life as a violinist-composer at Prague and then Vienna. His works are utterly typical of their place and period, as can be seen from this arrangement for tenor and bass recorders of the first of his Trois Duos a Viola et Violoncelle, Op. 14. I have had to make octave transpositions in places to accommodate the limited ranges of both recorders, and this arrangement is, in addition, slightly more austere than the original, which gives both instruments a fair amount of double-stopping. Nevertheless, this is a fun and challenging piece to play for both of these under-rated instruments, and a welcome addition to their very limited repertoire. Tempo indications are editorial; dynamics and and slurs have been altered to suit the new instrumentation. | |||
