Ajoutée par alfredo17, 12 Nov 2023 The Bohemian Composer Franz Vinzenz Krommer (1759 – 1831; in Bohemian spelling František Vincenc Kramá?) in his lifetime was a very successful musician. Many years he lived in Vienna, where he was Court Composer and ‘Kammer-Capellmeister’ of the Austrian Emperor. Among his more than 300 posthumous compositions is a lot of chamber music. Initially in the archive of the ‘Fürstlich Fürstenbergische Hofbibliothek Donaueschingen’, now in the Badische Landesbibliothek Karlsruhe, is located a manuscript copy of his ‘Quintett in B-dur für Englischhorn, Violine, 2 Violen und Violoncello’ (Sign. Don. Mus. Ms. 1172; digitally available). This high grade copy has been produced by Franz Joseph Rosinack (1748-1823), who was from 1777 to 1823 Oboist at the court of Donaueschingen. He was a composer himself and very active as arranger of pieces for the princely court music. The carefully established manuscript contains only very few mistakes, therefore only few corrections were necessary. Occasionally the dynamics resp. phrasing has been unified. In the manuscript all grace notes are notified as long graces. But in many cases they rather may be played as short grace notes. Despite the lacking designation, many of the quick figures may be played slurred. The part of the English horn is so high that it can be played well by a clarinet. Therefore a respective part has been prepared. In order to play the work with an ordinary string quartet, a second violin part has been established in lieu of the second viola. I am indebted to the Badische Landesbibliothek Karlsruhe for the consent to publication. |
