Full name: Gentile, Augusto Umberto
is work as tango composer began around 1913. As a player his name is known only after 1918 when he recorded some tangos as piano soloist for the Telephone label. He was musical director of the latter. Thereafter he had the same position at the Electra record company.
But he stood out as composer. He wrote 'Romántico bulincito' which bore the first lyrics by Enrique Dizeo.
The following numbers also belong to him: the tangos 'Flor de fango' (before it had lyrics it was known as 'El desalojo') and 'Desdichas', both with words by Pascual Contursi, 'Alma de indio', lyrics by Pedro Numa Córdoba, 'Bajo fondo', also with Dizeo?s lyrics, 'Corazón de indio', with Juan Andrés Caruso, 'El cotorro', 'Fuego vivo', 'Kewpies', 'La retranca', 'Viento norte', all instrumentals and the waltz 'Flor silvestre', also instrumental.
