Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714 - 1788) Allemagne Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, né à Weimar le 8 mars 1714 et mort à Hambourg le 14 décembre 1788, est un compositeur allemand. Deuxième fils survivant de Jean-Sébastien Bach et Maria Barbara Bach, il fut reconnu comme un génie par certains de ses illustres contemporains et par Ludwig van Beethoven. Il fut surnommé le Bach de Berlin et de Hambourg.
Initié très tôt à la musique, il joue en virtuose du clavecin dès son enfance, mais suit cependant des études de droit à Leipzig (1734 à 1738), associées bien sûr à la composition.
En 1738, le prince de Prusse propose à Carl Philipp Emanuel de faire partie de sa cour, à Berlin, en tant que claveciniste. Mais le musicien n'est pas assez estimé et il subit la jalousie de ses "collègues" (entre autres, Johann Joachim Quantz, professeur de flûte de sa Majesté). Il restera tout de même plus de 30 ans à cette place.
En 1744, après une période de traitement médical en Bohême, Bach épouse Johanna Maria Dannemann qui lui donnera trois enfants, tous sans descendance. Après la mort de son père en 1750, Carl Philipp Emanuel, héritier d'une partie des biens familiaux, recueille son demi-frère Johann Christian. Mais il se lasse de la cour, où il est peu considéré. Il essaiera donc de se placer à Zittau, puis à Leipzig où il tente de succéder à son père mais en vain.
Enfin, en 1768, un an après la mort de Georg Philipp Telemann, son parrain, Bach quitte son employeur trop ladre à son goût (le musicien n'est pas sous-payé, mais le monarque avait refusé de rembourser à ses musiciens les dommages de la guerre de Sept Ans) et est nommé Cantor dans une petite chorale.
