Nonetheless, its high quality places him, with Taverner and Tallis, at the forefront of English 16th-century church music. This first volume of his work contains 15 full anthems, evening canticles, and his famous setting of texts from The Acts of the Apostles, dedicated to Edward VI.

Alth ough one of the more active early composers for the Anglican rite, Tye also wrote vocal works on Latin texts, including choral hymns and responds, and some settings of the Ordinary of the Mass. His Western Wind Mass and Mean Mass probably date from before 1540, but the Mass Euge bone belongs stylistically to a later date, and was possibly written with some special purpose in mind after the death of Henry VIII.
