Johann Christian Bach (1743 - 1814) Allemagne Johann Christian Bach est un compositeur et organiste allemand, né à Leipzig le 5 septembre 1735 ; mort à Londres le 1er janvier 1782. Il fut surnommé le « Bach de Milan » et le « Bach de Londres ».
Johann Christian Bach (nom francisé en Jean-Chrétien Bach), est le onzième et dernier fils de Jean-Sébastien et d'Anna Magdalena Bach.
Attiré par la musique, tout comme ses autres frères, il reçoit la formation musicale de son père mais, à la mort de celui-ci en 1750, Johann Christian part pour Berlin afin de parachever sa formation musicale chez son demi-frère Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
Il y découvre le style italien et, désireux d'approfondir cette voie, il se rend à Milan chez le comte Agostino Litta, change son prénom en Giovanni Christiano et se convertit au catholicisme, au grand dam de sa famille luthérienne. On le retrouve en 1757 à Bologne élève du Padre Martini puis en 1760 organiste de la cathédrale de Milan. Durant son séjour en Italie, il écrit seize opéras, et le King's Theatre de Londres le fait venir en 1762. Deux années plus tard, Johann Christian obtient le poste convoité de maître de musique de la reine Sophie-Charlotte et, la même année, il joue avec le jeune Mozart alors âgé de seulement 8 ans. Cette rencontre est importante car Johann Christian Modèle:Renec. Mozart a ainsi arrangé Les sonates opus 5 (n° 2, 3 et 4) de Johann Christian Bach en concertos pour piano (K. 107). Mozart rendra finalement hommage au maître allemand en citant l´un de ses ouvrages lyriques (l´ouverture de 'La Calamitá dei cuori') dans l´andante de son concerto en la majeur (K. 414), composé peu après la disparition de Johann Christian Bach.
Il se rend à Mannheim en 1772, ou il compose un opéra pour le théâtre de la ville, Temistocle, puis en 1776 un nouvel opéra (Lucio Silla sur un livret également utilisé par Mozart). Cette même année, à Londres, il participe au concert inaugural du Masonic Hall. Le 23 mai, en compagnie de Carl-Friedrich Abel il est reçu franc-maçon à la loge de The Nine Muses « avec dispense de tout droit à acquitter »[1].
En 1778, Johann Christian Bach reçoit une commande de Paris pour un opéra (Amadis de Gaule) qui ne remporte pas le succès escompté. Cette même année, il est reçu Compagnon et fait Maître dans la foulée, dans sa loge maçonnique de Londres, le 15 juin 1778.
Ses dernières années sont assez difficiles : il meurt à Londres le 1er janvier 1782, accablé de dettes, que la reine règle. Bien que marié début 1773 avec une chanteuse italienne, Cecilia Grassi, on ne lui connaît pas de descendance.
Johann Christian est un des premiers claviéristes à jouer du piano-forte et à composer pour ce nouvel instrument.

Henri Casadesus was
passionate about early
instruments, as we know
from a number of
photographs showing him
with viola d’amore, the
subject of a manual he
wrote entitled Tecnique
de la viole d’amour.
The Concerto en Ut mineur
was first published in
1947 by Mica Salabert.
The first edition gives
the so-called
“original” part for
solo violocello together
with the score which,
according to the preface,
has been adapted for
viola or cello or violin
by Casadesus. However,
stylistic analysis of the
piece, together with some
musicological research
carried out after the
appearance of the first
edition reveals that the
“original” version
for violoncello, on which
the adaptation was
supposed to be based,
cannot be attributed to
Johann Christian Bach,
but is rather a work
imitating his style
written two centuries
later. In spite of this,
Concerto en Ut mineur
encountered considerable
success and continues to
be studied and performed
by both violinists and
violoncellists
today. Henri
Gustave Casadesus
nourrissait une profonde
passion pour les
instruments anciens,
qu’illustrent notamment
plusieurs photographies
qui le représentent avec

l’analyse du style de
la pièce et des
recherches musicologiques
successives jamais
contestées du reste par
la famille Casadesus il
apparaît que la version
« originale » pour
violoncelle, de laquelle
découlerait
l’adaptation, n’est
pas attribuable non plus
Johann Christian Bach,
mais aurait été
composée selon sa
manière deux siècles
après. En dépit de
cela, ce concerto a connu
une bonne fortune et est
encore étudié et
interprété
aujourd’hui par les
altistes et les
violoncellistes.
