overwhelmingly beautiful.

NotesThere is no possible
way I could compose a
piece of music worthy of
the memory of my close
friend, Dr. David Kirby,
who died very suddenly at
an early age. Neither
could I write a piece
that could come close to
reflecting his kind
spirit, wit, personality
or talent. In fact, it
was almost impossible for
me to write anything at
all. My own grief and the
stages of my
grief kept getting in
the way. I ended up with
a setting of the
hymn-tune, Resignation.
Resigned. To the fact
that he is no longer
with us. I know he is
in a better place, but we
are not. We miss him very
much. And so, My Shepherd
Will Supply My Need seems
to speak to those of us
he left behind. I
apologize if this piece
does not reflect your
special feelings for him
or help you celebrate his
moving on. Unfortunately,
I could only put down
what I have come to
accept and hope in some
way it may speak to any
of you that knew him or
to others of you who have
also lost a close friend.
My Shepherd Will Supply
My Need. That is my
hope and my hope for
you.Although technically
very easy, this
composition requires a
maturity of musicianship
to be performed properly.
The Bb contrabass
clarinet part is integral
to the composition, but
there are cues in the
tuba part if you need
them.  Make sure you
bring horns to the fore
at m. 53 and the low
brass at m. 59 so the
melody can be heard
without effort.
Exaggerate dynamics to
bring more emotion to the
piece. Be careful not to
diminuendo too soon near
the end or it will be
difficult to diminish
even further at the very
end, where the lone
clarinetist holds over a
couple of measures,
fading into nothing. I
hope your students will
enjoy this piece and take
from it a greater
appreciation for the way
making music can express
feelings. $13.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks | | |

English. We urge
you to look at this
important new composition
by James Curnow. This
symphonic variant style
treatment of themes based
on the shape-note tune
Resignation is a
magnificent compositional
exploration. Once your
group has achieved the
ability to perform at
this level of difficulty,
they deserve to play
music with the challenge
and masterful quality
that Inventions from the
Sacred Harp
presents. Even a brief
analysis of the score
reveals composition and
development techniques
that are reserved for
pieces on an impressive
scale. A more thorough
analysis lets you
appreciate the complexity
of the compositional
processes found in the
very fabric of this major
work.The historical
significance of The
Sacred Harp provides
the opportunity for some
cross-curricular work as
well.
Wanneer uw
orkest een bepaald niveau
heeft bereikt, kunt u
uitpakken met
Inventions from the
Sacred Harp. James
Curnow ontwikkelde

stukResignation uit de
beroemde Sacred

waarin liederen, hymnen,
psalmmelodieën en
volksliedbewerkingen van
vroege Amerikaanse

opgenomen. Een complex,
niet onder één

werk datindrukwekkend is
voor zowel muzikanten als
publiek.
Wenn Ihr
Blasorchester ein
gewisses spielerisches
Niveau erreicht hat,
sollten Sie es mit einem
Stück wie

String Quartet was
written twenty years
after the first, Opus 4
from 1978. The First
Quartet is an obsessively
contrapuntal work in one
movement, which was no
doubt influenced by my
studies with David
Diamond. I had always
intended to return to the
medium once I left the
astringency of my earlier
style, but it was only
when the National
Federation of Music Clubs
commissioned a major
chamber work, with
unspecified
instrumentation, to
celebrate their 100th
Anniversary that I was
enabled to do so. The
Second Quartet is in four
movements: Moderato,
Allegro isterico, an
Andante theme with 11
variations, and the
closing Allegro, which
then returns to the tempo
of the first movement. An
audience member at the
premiere told me that she
heard echoes of recent
tragic events such as the
Oklahoma bombing in this
work. While I had no such
programmatic intent while
writing the quartet, it
was not an entirely
incorrect assessment of
the work's intended
emotional impact. The
quartet is pervaded by a
sense of seriousness,
even mournfulness. The
second movement's scherzo
is an aggressively
animated piece of musical
machinery. The third
movement's Variations
unfold into a greater
variety of moods than the
others - but the moments
of lyricism are countered
by aggressive or ironic
outbursts. The final
movement's attempt at
triumph quickly subsides
into a return of the
first movement, before
being transformed onto a
sense of resignation and
acceptance as the
chromaticism of the
opening theme is
transformed into a pure
and diatonic C-Major. The
work received its world
premiere by the Shanghai
Quartet at the 100th
Anniversary Congress of
the National Federation
of Music Clubs at the
Congress Hotel in Chicago
on August 19th
