suggests that the Six
Songs of Opus 13 are
arguably his finest. When
first published in 1914,
the suite included the
name of the poet
Maeterlinck in the title,
and some confusion over
voice range resulted in
the transposition of two
of the songs, over
Zemlinsky's stern
objection. This new
edition addresses these
issues, restoring the
songs to their original
keys. Note that this
edition for voice and
piano is not compatible
with the orchestral
version and cannot be
used as a piano/vocal
score. $24.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks | | |

by: Dunstan House This
collection of choral
responses includes thirty
items, ten each of
Introits, Prayer
Responses and
Benedictions, divided
equally into 15 for SATB
and 15 for SAB choirs.
Where a particular text
may appear more than
once, the settings are
completely different from
each other; there are no
cases of simplifying an
SATB title for SAB use,
nor of thickening an SAB
original for SATB
ensembles. Although
intended to be sung a
cappella, there is no
practical objection to a
bit of discrete keyboard
support if that will
bring the pieces within
more confident reach of
the choir. Difficulty:

SPIN is a three-movement
study in various meanings
of the word spin. I. Gyre
has the character of a
whimsically spinning
object in a sort of
arena. II. Web is
essentially a slow
movement. It explores a
nearly static, sinewy
texture comprised of
slowly undulating chords
in which snippets of
melody emerge from the
notes held while the
chords disappear. Similar
to the first movement,
III. Spiral explores a
kinetic notion of
spinning, this time in
the form of rapidly
rising scales. SPIN
was composed in early
1998. Each of the
work’s three
movements assumes the
task of exploring a
different meaning of the
title.The first movement,
Gyre (as in gyroscope),
has the character of a
whimsically spinning
object in a sort of arena
– spinning and
bouncing off the walls
(like a spinning penny,
which bounces off of an
object unpredictably and
with somewhat explosive
force). The primary
musical idea consists of
high harmonics in the
violins set against a
rocking pulse in the
lower strings. This basic
texture is explored in
various guises as the
movement progresses.Web
is essentially a slow
movement. It explores a
nearly static, sinewy
texture comprised of
slowly undulating chords.
Snippets of melody emerge
from the notes held while
the chords disappear. The
music intensifies,
leading to an expected
climax (or anti-climax)
of pizzicatos, before
returning to the opening
material and winding
gently to a close.Like
Gyre, the third movement,
Spiral, explores a
kinetic notion of
spinning, this time in
the form of rapidly
rising scales. The formal
idea of this movement,
however, has the
character of a spiral,
with its tendency toward
implosion.SPIN was

680160642441. Time
is one of the main
factors impacting the
world and our lives.
Einstein saw time as the
relationship of the
motion of one object
relative to the position
of another object, as
measured through
observation. But can we
really measure time
objectively? Music, the
art which moves through
time, can affect our
perception of time, and
can affect each person's
perception of time
differently. Depending on
the emotion it
stimulates, music can
make time seem to pass
quickly or slowly. A
composer can use music to
convey time to an
audience and different
musical ideas can create
different sensations of
time. Absence of Time is
a concerto for woodwind
quartet and orchestra. It
has three main sections
(fast, slow, fast),
recalling traditional
concerto form, but it
does not use the solo
instruments in the
traditional way, i.e., as
soloists in contest with
the orchestra. Inspired
by the idea of
juxtaposing different
experiences of time, I
divided the instruments
into two groups: the four
soloists and the
orchestra. The orchestra
functions mostly as the
keeper of time (real
time) while the quartet
of soloists fluctuates
(in imaginary time or in
the absence of time)
around the orchestra's
time. While the quartet's
instruments do play
solos, they also play in
ensemble with the
orchestra. You could say
that they play in both
imaginary time (as
soloists) and in real
time (with the
orchestra). In addition
to this, the woodwind
section of the orchestra
plays in conversation
with the solo quartet,
calling it back to real
time. Fusion is achieved
at the end of the piece
through the use of
strong, driving rhythm.
Absence of Time was
commissioned by the
Pacific Symphony and was
first performed by the
Pacific Symphony and the
Pacific Symphony Woodwind
Quartet with Carl St.
Clair as conductor on
