Evan Stephens (June 28, 1854?October 27, 1930) was a Latter-day Saint composer and hymnwritter. He was also the director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for many years.
Stephens was born at Pencader, Wales. He moved with his family to Utah when he was twelve.[1]
Stephens never married. However he was sealed to two women. The first was his fiancee, but she died in a freak accident while in a stage performance. The second he had wanted to marry but she was not willing to join the LDS Church and he wanted to serve as a good example of marrying in the faith to the youth of the church.
