Ajoutée par themusicalnomad, 23 Mai 2015 Approximately four years ago, I wrote a collection of pieces which developed motifs from Hoagy Carmichael’s Star Dust, which I called "Star Dust: Reinvented". I wanted to write a piece that would show the changes and developments in my compositional style from then to now. For this piece I chose the motif that in vocal versions of Star Dust would be ‘-ways reminding me that’ from the line ‘Always reminding me that we’re apart’. This piece is influenced by Steve Reich’s Nagoya Marimbas, Clapping Hands and Music for Pieces of Wood, Ivan Travino’s Into the Air and less definitively, Pantar’s Calebasse Café. Although this piece is not strictly in the ‘phase music’ style, it is influenced by the idea. The most difficult part of playing this would be the stamina needed to keep playing without much breaks. However, certain parts are repetitive, while others are constantly changing. By having the players take turns between repeating and changing, I hope I've made it easier for the performers to keep concentration! |
