The edition features a 15-bar instrumental Piano introduction as well as solo parts for Soprano throughout.The oratorio depicts the disciples of Jesus and their reactions to the extraordinary events they witness. Just as for the rest of the libretto the verses in The Spirit Of The Lord Is Upon Me have been assembled directly from the Bible by Elgar. This has been the pattern for many of the mostinfluential oratorios throughout history including Handel's Messiah (1741) and Mendelssohn's Elijah (1836).
