G. F. Handel (1685-1759) was a German-born British composer and organist who spent his life working in London. In addition to his well-known large-scale works like the Water Music and Music for the RoyalFireworks he wrote nearly 200 smaller works for keyboard instruments. The Harmonious Blacksmith is a popular name given to the final movement of Handel's Suite No. 5 in E major forHarpsichord more properly known as Air and Variations (HWV 430).
