The Sechs Evangelien-Motetten (Six Gospel Motets) were composed by Johann Nepomuk David in 1957/58 and published as single editions by Breitkopf & Hartel in 1958. By this time, he was professor of music theory and counterpoint at the conservatory in Stuttgart. This later period of his composing activities also expresses itself in the music: demanding counterpoint is connected with expressive chromaticism and wide-range dynamic differentiation in these six settings of gospel texts.
