The first part the cantabile enables the player to work on their phrasing while the scherzetto is good training for triple tonguing. Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941) was a French flautist composer and conductor. He wrote manypieces of chamber music including three Sonatas for Flute and Piano and some Fantasies.
