The Oratorio de Noel, opus 112 was composed in 1858 and is one of the four oratorios he wrote. It is scored for five soloists (soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor and baritone) four-part mixed choir, strings, harp and organ. The language of this early work is a gentle and classical style a la Mendelssohn. Tollite hostias is the last of ten movements in the Oratorio de Noel.
