for SATB Chorus a cappella-With a sound at once modern and medieval this remarkable setting of the familiar Latin text starts in unison and evokes plain chant and gradually unfolds into wider harmonies and more modern harmonic language. (Ubi Caritas III)-Ola Gjeilo's Sacred Heart is the final of his three Ubi Caritas settings. This work is scored for SSAATTBB Choir with String Quartet. Musically independent from Gjeilo's other two Ubi Caritas settings Sacred Heart can stand alone or be performed with the two previous works. A lovely String Quartet accompaniment balances with the choir making this a stunning and peaceful adaptation of such a thoughtful text.

Second Eve by Ola Gjeilo was commissioned by dedicated to and later premiered by the Riverside City College Chamber Choir and conductor John Byun in Riverside California Oct. 2008.'In some of my pieces the text is somewhat more the servant of the music than the other way around and Second Eve is one of those works. The music is mainly inspired by a breathtaking photography taken by one of my favourite photographers Jake Rajs featured in the book These United States (Rizzoli). It is a picture of Alaska’s Mount McKinley the highest mountain peak in the US and I was looking at this photo throughout the writingprocess making sure that the energy and atmosphere of the music corresponded with the feeling I got from looking at the picture.The Sancta Maria text seemed to kind of fit into what I was looking for in this piece expressing something mystical and kind of regal which Mt. Ola Gjeilo's first publication for developing voices features new lyrics by acclaimed lyricist Charles Anthony Silvestri. Exploring the ideals of each of the four seasons the lyrics have been beautifully set for treble voices by the composer. ?Ubi Caritas II: Through Infinite Ages is a closely related sequel to my Ubi Caritas published in 2007. Re-imagining some of the same material such as the main theme from the first piece Ubi Caritas II is in one sense a more sunny version of its prequel. While Ubi Caritas II functions as an independent work it is also intended to be used in combination with the other piece for example as prelude/postlude ?bookends? perhaps yielding a sense of unity and conclusion to the concert or recording.
