Cello Duet Cello - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266695 Composed by Giorgio Gentili. Arranged by Snakewood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score. 25 pages. Sneakwood Editions #859373. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.1266695). Giorgio Gentili was surely one of the most influential musicians in Venice at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1702, or even earlier, he was appointed maestro di instromenti at the prestigious Ospedale dei Mendicanti in Venice, where musicians such as Legrenzi, Biffi and Galuppi worked. In 1689 he became a violinist in the San Marco orchestra and shortly after, in 1691, he was appointed concertmaster. Under his direction he had musicians like Veracini or Giovanni Battista Vivaldi and Antonio Vivaldi. Surely this fact is related to the notable influence of Gentili's concerti on those of Antonio Vivaldi.Gentili's departure from the Ospedale dei Mendicanti in 1717 coincides with the departure to Dresden of other famous Venetian musicians such as Lotti, which gives rise to the suspicion that Gentili was also hired along with these musicians by the Elector of Saxony during his trip to Italy.Gentili was one of those rare musicians who only played instrumental music, at least as far as we know. Gentili published six volumes of music:Op. 1. Suonate a tre, 1701Op. 2. Concerti da camera a tre, 1702Op. 3. Capricci da camera a violino e violoncello o cimbalo, 1707Op. 4. Suonate a tre (lost)Op. 5. Concerti a quattro e cinque, 1708Op. 6. Concerti a quattro, 1716Apart from this work, we find two interesting manuscripts in the Library of the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice that contain the only two known sonatas for cello and basso continuo by Gentili.

String Trio Cello,Double Bass,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266243 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Snakewood Editions. Baroque,Classical. 23 pages. Sneakwood Editions #858975. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.1266243). Preface and notes to the edition (English and Spanish) Score Parts (violin, violoncello, and basso) The sonata can be found in autograph version at the Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria di Torino (Foá 29, pp.83r-86v).  It is the only known copy of this work, and was composed around 1720. It is copied in full score format. In the known catalog of Vivaldi’s works we find only another piece written for the same instrumentation (violin, violoncello, and basso): the trio sonata RV 820. The differences between the two sonatas are notable: the rv 820 sonata was written in Vivaldi’s younger years (ca. 1705) while the rv 83 sonata shows us a Vivaldi who has already forged his own fully recognizable style.Vivaldi used abbreviations and sometimes omitted certain information; a common practice found in many of his autographs. This edition clarifies all these annotations and, at the same time, gives the performer all the information contained in the manuscript.

Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.1266223). Vivaldi – Sinfonia (first Allegro) for strings and continuo from L’Olimpiade RV 725. Preface + Score + Parts (PDF) Preface and Notes Score Parts (Violin I, Violin II, Viola and Basso) Vivaldi – Sinfonia for strings and continuo from L’Olimpiade RV 725L´Olimpiade. Dramma per Musica, is an opera in three acts based on a libretto by Pietro Metastasio composed by Vivaldi and premiered at the Teatro Sant’Angelo on February 17, 1734, during the carnival. There is an earlier version based on the same libretto but written by Antonio Caldara in 1733. There are more than 50 later versions written by various authors, including Pergolesi (1735).Vivaldi’s opera begins with a Sinfonia for strings (Allegro) followed by two instrumental movements: Andante in cut time, and Allegro in 3/8 time. This edition includes just the first Allegro. There is an autograph copy in score format contained in the manuscript I-Tn, Foà 39, Bl. 1-140. The present edition is based on this manuscript. It is very interesting to mention that there is a violin concerto based on this same symphony (or perhaps the thematic transfer was from the concerto to the symphony). It is the violin concerto in C major rv 177.There are several sources for this concerto: Vivaldi’s autograph contained in the manuscript I-Tn, Foà 31, Bl. 14-25, in score format, and two sources in Dresden, the manuscript D-Dl, Mus. 2389-O-83 (score) and D-Dl, Mus. 2389-O-83a.The concerto includes some changes from the Sinfonia. Although these are different works, the connection between the two pieces seems obvious and the annotations that we find in the violin concerto could complement the information that appears in the Sinfonia. For this reason, it is interesting to mention these changes in this edition.

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266273 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Snakewood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score and Parts. 12 pages. Sneakwood Editions #859004. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.1266273). The autograph is held in the Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria di Torino (I-Tn, Giordano 34, Bl. 100-102). It is the only known copy of this work. The work was surely composed between 1725 and 1734.[2]  It is copied in full score format. In the known catalog of Vivaldi’s works we find another piece that shares the same title, it is the Sonata à 4 al Santo Sepolcro (Sonata in E flat major RV 130). Both pieces feature a similar structure: a slow introduction and a fugal movement.Sepolcri, or oratorios for the sepulchre, were a kind of composition that was performed at the Viennese courts during Holy Week. These were semi-staged oratorios. The examples that survive by Caldara or Fux show how the introductions of these oratorios always had the same scheme: a slow introduction followed by a fugal movement, just like the RV 169 and RV 130.These compositions are undoubtedly inspired by the Viennese, although it seems unlikely that Vivaldi wrote them as a commissioned work. However, it is possible that they were composed to support his application to the Viennese court. It is also quite probable that these pieces were intended to accompany some of the liturgical actions that were celebrated between Holy Thursday and Holy Saturday, such as the visit to the Sepulchers in Venetian churches.

Sneakwood Editions #4781043. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890768). The Concert à 9 Parties, 50:1, features an eccentric instrumentation of flute (ordinary, or that at the octave [i.e. piccolo], or the two combined), alto chalumeau, oboe, two violins almost entirely in unison, viola, two concertante contrabasses, and continuo. The work is in fact a three-movement symphony, as indicated by the original title that Telemann crossed out before he began composing: Grillen-Symphonie in the Italian, French, English, Scottish, and Polish styles. Although this title was rejected, along with the jumble of national idioms, it helps explain the music’s curiously tongue-in-cheek style (Grillen, as used in this sense, are whims) (From Music for a Mixed Taste: Style, Genre, and Meaning in Telemann’s by Steven Zohn)Edition based on manuscript by Telemann: Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (D-B): Mus. ms. autogr. Sneakwood Editions #2967689. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890759). Concerto for Pisendel RV 205. Score and PartsThe Concerto facto per Mr.P[isendel] RV 205 is the one of the violin concerto by Vivaldi, Antonio (4 March 1678 – 28 July 1741 ), composed between 1716 and 1717. The original manuscript is in the Dresden library: Manuscript: Mus.2389-O- 123 (RISM-A/II-212000134). When Johann Georg Pisendel stayed in Venice, he studied with Vivaldi and be friended as well. Vivaldi dedicated a number of his violin concertos, sonatas and a sinfonia to him. Surely during the period between 1716 and 1717 Pisendel was in tour in Venice, we can asumme that he brought this concerto with him to Dresden to be performed there. For the present edition all the marks and notations has been respected from the original without adding any change, leaving the decision of the final performance to the performer.www.snakewoodeditions.com

Vivaldi – Concerto in D RV 208 "Grosso Mogul" Score and parts (PDF)

String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890766 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 34 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4781033. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890766). Vivaldi’s violin concerto in D major, RV 208, survives in three manuscripts:Vivaldi’s autograph score, conserved in Turin. [This edition is based on this source]A copy of the parts, conserved in the Landesbibliothek Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Günther Uecker [de] in Schwerin.Another copy of the parts conserved in Cividale del Friuli. The Grosso Mogul title appears on the Schwerin manuscript, which was written before 1717. According to Michael Talbot, the name of the concerto can possibly be linked to Domenico Lalli’s Il gran Mogol opera libretto, a setting of which had been presented in Naples in 1713. Later settings of this libretto include Giovanni Porta’s, staged in Venice in 1717, and Vivaldi’s RV 697 (1730).The Schwerin and Cividale del Friuli copies of the concerto contain two variants of extended cadenzas for unaccompanied violin, in the first and last movements of the concerto. The autograph version indicates where such cadenzas can be inserted in these movements, but does not contain the cadenzas. A manuscript with the written-out cadenzas must have been circulating before c. 1713–1714 when Bach transcribed such version for solo organ (BWV 594).An earlier version of the concerto, RV 208a, was probably composed by c. 1712–1713. This version has a different middle movement than the RV 208 version.Vivaldi seems to have had no supervision over the Op. 7 collection, published around 1720 in Amsterdam by the Roger firm, in which the older RV 208a version of the concerto was retained. This version of the concerto does not contain the extended cadenzas, nor an indication where such cadenzas could be inserted. Sneakwood Editions #2968105. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890761). The Trio Sonata in G major was independently identified as an early Vivaldian work in 2014 by the Italian scholar, recorder player, and ensemble director Mr. Federico Maria Sardelli and by the Spanish scholar, violin player and ensemble director Mr. Javier Lupiáñez. The piece was recently cataloged as RV 820 in the Vivaldi Catalog and is the earliest known work by Vivaldi. The Trio Sonata presents a different Vivaldi to the one we are used to. It shows the young Vivaldi: On the one hand, clearly influenced by the masters of the end of 17th century such Corelli, Bonporti or Torelli, and on the other hand it is easy to perceive that some new and original Vivaldian ideas start to blossom in this early work. The discovery and attribution of this Sonata is very important to understand the roots of Vivaldi’s style and the change of musical taste that happened at the beginning of the 18th century.Edition and Preface by Javier LupiáñezScore, friendly performing edition.www.snakewoodeditions.com

Score and parts. 48 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4781029. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890764). Farina was born at Mantua. He presumably received his first lessons from his father, who was sonatore di viola at the court of the Gonzaga in that city. Later he got further education probably by Salomone Rossi and Giovanni Battista Buonamente. From 1626 to 1629, he worked as concertmaster in Dresden. In Dresden he worked with Heinrich Schütz, who interested him in composing. From 1629 to 1631, he was a prominent member of the electoral court orchestra in Bonn, until he returned to Italy, where he worked in Parma and later in Lucca until 1635. In 1635 he held position at the court of Carlo I Cybo-Malaspina, Prince of Massa, and between 1636 and 1637 in Gdańsk. From 1638 he lived in Vienna, where he died of the plague probably a year later. He is considered to be one of the earliest violin virtuosos and he made many contributions to violin technique. For example, in his work Capriccio Stravagante (1627) he used the violin to imitate animal sounds like dogs barking or cats fighting. [wikipedia]For further information about the piece you can read

The Sonata for violin and continuo in G Major RV 25 by Antonio Lucio Vivaldi is not just a work that demonstrates the originality and quality of the compositional art of Il Prete Rosso. It is also a valuable exponent of the bond that formed between the Venetian and the young Pisendel. The dedication to Pisendel at the start of the autograph is written by Vivaldi himself, Suonata à Solo fatto p[er] Ma[estro]: Pisendel Del Vivaldi (Sonata written for Master Pisendel by Vivaldi). But not only that. Vivaldi left a space for Pisendel to add a slow movement. The manuscript is practically all written in the hand of Vivaldi, except for the Grave, composed and written by Pisendel. The present edition by Javier Lupiáñez includes:PrefaceEmbellishments for the Grave based on Pisendel embellishments on VivaldiExtra variations for the last Menuetto based on Vivaldi variationswww.snakewoodeditions.com

Edition based on Ms. D MÜu, ms. 775Score (20 pages) and Parts (friendly performance edition): Violino principale, Violin I, Violin II, Violin III, Viola, Violoncello and Harpsichord. The Violin Concerto in A major (TWV 51:A4), which has come to light only fairly recently, does not take as its musical model the song of the nightingale (as in ‘La Bizarre’ [TWV 55:G2]) or of the goldfinch (Vivaldi), but the croaking of the common frog, also called ‘Reling’ in certain regions of Germany, whence the concerto’s subtitle. Nothing better could be expected of a composer who found inspiration even in crows and in the out-of-tune playing of village musicians! Although this concerto, which the manuscript attributes to Telemann, bears traces of his personal style, other features, such as the exceptionally high solo part, leave room for doubt. At a structurally important point in the first movement the soloist produces no more than a succession of repeated notes, ‘a-a, a-a’, which infect the other parts as well. Of course, this is the vowel that the frog croaks, given a distinctive tone-colour by use of the open A string and stopped D string. But worse is to come. In the second ritornello the orchestral violins ‘forget’ the beginning of their theme, whilst the cello inappropriately pushes its way into the foreground. The setting of the second movement (Adagio), probably a moonlit stretch of shallow water, then audibly inspires a pair of courting frogs to make sweet music together. We are given the opportunity to rejoice in their croaking offspring in the concluding Menuet and its rapid Double. This movement entirely dispenses with concertante sounds of nature and thereby betrays its origins in the suite, where it always takes its accustomed place in Telemann’s music. If we knew that a satirist was at work in this ‘Relinge’ Concerto, someone who was deliberately exhibiting all these deviations from good taste, then we could infer with some certainty that the composer is indeed Telemann. Since his own concertos ‘smack of France’ (as he puts it in his autobiography of 1718), we may most likely credit him with permitting his not at all ‘sullen old heart’ a little joke at the expense of the relevant concertos of a certain Italian composer… – Peter Huth (trans. Violin Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890765 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque,Classical. 9 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4781031. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890765). Vivaldi’s violin concerto in D major, RV 208, survives in three manuscripts:Vivaldi’s autograph score, conserved in Turin.A copy of the parts, conserved in the Landesbibliothek Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Günther Uecker [de] in Schwerin.Another copy of the parts conserved in Cividale del Friuli. The present edition present the modern edition of the cadenzas contained in Schwerin and Cividale del Friuli manuscript.Although the cadence for the first movement is almost identical in both manuscripts, the cadence for the third movement is different in each one of them. This is the modern edition of these cadences:Cadenza, first movement from Cividale del Friuli. Archivio Capitulare ms. senza signature and Schwering, Mecklenburgishe Landsbibliothek ms. 5565.Cadenza, third movement from Cividale del Friuli. Instrumental Duet Harpsichord,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890762 Composed by Johann Georg Pisendel. Arranged by Antonio Montanari. Baroque. Score and parts. 7 pages. Sneakwood Editions #2968107. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890762). Composed by Pisendel and containing annotations by Antonio Montanari.Authenticated in 2005 as a piece by Pisendel, the Sonata in E major was written during his journey through Italy and is a perfect exponent of the personal and virtuoso compositional Pisendel’s style. It is very rarely performed, partly because of the relative novelty of the pisendelian paternity of the piece and in part by the difficulty of reading the manuscript, that contains lots of annotations and corrections. However these corrections add interest to the piece as recent studies suggest that were made by Antonio Montanari, making the composition a perfect example of musical experiences Pisendel in Italy.Score, friendly performance edition and Prefacewww.snakewoodeditions.com
