Gustav Holst composed almost 200 works, one being a very elegant and charming fantasy on the old English christmas carols: Good Christian Men, Rejoice; God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen; Come Ye Lofty, Come and The First Nowell. The fantasy called Christmas Day was originally written for mixed choir with orchestra or organ accompaniment. Robert van Beringen has arranged this work for concert band exactly 100 years later. His arrangement can be performed as an instrumental piece or with a choir, making it suitable for any occasion.Een van de tweehonderd werken die Gustav Holst heeft gecomponeerd, is deze fantasie over de vier oude Engelse kerstliederen: Good Christian Men, Rejoic - God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen - Come Ye Lofty, Come en The First Nowell.In 1910 schreef hij Christian Day - oorspronkelijk voor gemengd koor met orkest of orgelbegeleiding. Precies honderd jaar later bewerkte Robert van Beringen het werk voor blaasorkest. U kunt zijn arrangement geheelinstrumental, maar ook met koor uitvoeren.Eines der 200 Werke, die Gustav Holst außer der bekannten Suite Die Planeten hinterließ, ist diese Fantasie über die vier alten englischen Weihnachtslieder Good Christian Men, Rejoice; God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen; Come Ye Lofty, Come und The First Nowell. Christmas Day wurde ursprünglich für gemischten Chor mit Orchesteroder Orgelbegleitung geschrieben. Genau hundert Jahre später bearbeitete Robert van Beringen das Werk für Blasorchester. This psychotic poete maudit lived in the realms of his imagination, where he identified himself with fairy-tale princes and Oriental heroes. In Nerval's Poems, Jacob de Haan has composed the themes directly to the rhythm of the texts. Thus the work can be performed instrumentally or with a vocal soloist or unison choir. Somebody to Love, from rock legends Queen, is one of the most popular rock ballads of all time. Taking its inspiration from gospel choirs, the band’s vocal lines were multiplied many times over to create a full choral sound. This layered effect has been carefully preserved in Peter Kleine Schaars’ powerful arrangement for fanfare band. Somebody to Love komt van het album A Day at the Races van Queen uit 1976. Het is een rockballad. Ge nspireerd door het gezang van gospelkoren, vermenigvuldigden ze hier de stemmen van Freddie Mercury, Brian May en Roger Taylor tot een gigantisch koor. Dit zorgde voor een heel speciale sound. En juist dit bijzondere geluid weet Peter Kleine Schaars heel goed te behouden in zijn bewerking voor orkest. Somebody to Love ist eine Rockballade aus dem Album A Day at the Races von 1976. Inspiriert vom Gesang von Gospelchören, wurden fu r die Aufnahme die Stimmen von Freddie Mercury, Brian May und Roger Taylor zu einem riesigen Chor vervielfacht, was fu r den speziellen Sound des Titels sorgte. Dieses besondere Feeling ist auch in der Fanfarebearbeitung von Peter Kleine Schaars sehr schön erhalten. Somebody to Love est une ballade rock de l’album A Day At The Races, sorti en 1976. As the title suggests, this work is a partita: it consists of a number of variations on a chorale melody. The partita has been popular for centuries, especially when it comes to organ music. Henk van Belcum, who is active in the choir world, chose for his Partita Piccola the German hymn Wunderbarer König as a starting point. Partita Piccola consists of four variations and a choral setting. After a majestic opening fanfare, the second variation follows, based on a canon by Pachelbel. Händel’s Sarabande is the basis of the third variation. Next comes the chorale setting, after which the work ends festively with a dance that has been written in the form of a courante. PartitaPiccola is an asset for church services and for concert platforms. Die Partita, seit Jahrhunderten ein fester und beliebter Bestandteil der Orgelliteratur, besteht aus einer Anzahl Variationen zu einer Choralmelodie. Für seine Partita Piccola nahm sich Henk van Belcum die deutsche Hymne Wunderbarer König als Vorlage. Die Partita Piccola besteht aus vier Variationen und einer Choralbearbeitung, die auch einzeln für den Gottesdienst verwendet werden kann.Auf eine würdevolle Eröffnungsfanfare folgen neben der Choralbearbeitung Variationen zu einem Kanon Pachelbels und zu Händels Sarabande. Abgerundet wird das Werk schließlich durch eine festliche Courante. Die Partita Piccola ist eine Bereicherung für den Gottesdienst und dieKonzertbühne.

Franz Schubert (1797-1828), great Austrian composer, was a supreme melodist and master of lieder. This transcription is based on his Sanctus (Holy, Holy, Holy) from his German Mass in F. (ca. 1815) for four-part choir and lends itself well to the expressive qualities of the modern brass quintet.
