Quartet by Pierre Max Dubois is a piece for four Saxophones also known as Concertino initially composed for four Saxophones and a String Orchestra. The scores for all Saxophones are part of this edition with a set of all four Saxophones scores. It is considered as difficult it requires strong endurance and a good technique. Andante Pierre Max Dubois (1930-1995) is a French composer who was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1955. Mainly composing classical music hisworks are mainly for woodwinds. He is one of the founder of Les Six which included his professor Darius Milhaud.

This edition features all the scores including the conductor’s. Very difficult it is dedicated to the “Marcel Mule Quartet”. Divided into six parts and lasting 17’30 minutes this work is really melodious and contains a fugue minuet and a passepied: 1. Entr?e – Largo (4/4) 2. Fugue – Allegretto (2/4) 3. Menuet - Andantino (5/4) 4. Passepied – Allegreto (3/8) 5. Air – Largo (4/4) 6. Score and Parts-The Canonic Suite for quartet of alto saxophones is a revision made in 1981 of the Suite For Quartet Of Alto Saxophones. It was awarded a prize in 1945 by Broadcast Music Inc. and was first published that year. The Fanfare is a canon in four parts at the unison; the Nocturne a four-part canon in inversion (Sax 2) retrograde (Sax 3) and retrograde - inversion (Sax 4); the Tarantella a four-part canon at the second above.

This quartet for Saxophones entitled Introduction Et Variations Sur Une Ronde Populaire by Gabriel Pierné is a standard in the Saxophone quartet repertoire. Composed in 1934 and dedicated to the Marcel Mule Quartet this piece for advanced players is as bright and cheerful as a round dance should be and yet quite delicate and light in terms of writing. With many ornaments and variations  Introduction Et Variations begins slowly but is interrupted twice by the roundo. Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) won the Prix de Rome in 1882. The composer wrote manychamber compositions Piano pieces symphonic music and some oratorios.

3 Original Pieces for Saxophone Quartet. Three works with quotations from well-known composers are contained in this tongue-in-cheek collection. Otto M. Schwarz has produced an outstanding recording of these works with members of the Slovak Philharmonic, which is available on all streaming and download platforms. 1. THE AMADEUS WATCH: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart?s own watch ? if he had one ? ticks away. The ticking carries us back in time with a piece that stylistically imitates the music of the 18th century in melody, harmony and rhythm. 2. COMPOSERS DINNER IN HEAVEN: At the music publisher De Haske, a composers? dinner was an integral part of trade fairs or meetings. The dinner was very popular among anyone who sat at it, not least of all because it offered one the opportunity to chat informally. ?Based on such a meeting, Otto M. Schwarz has a composed a work that describes an imaginary dinner of great classical masters on a cloud in the sky. Guess which composers are present by the references in the form of musical quotations and stylistic devices! 3. SCHERZO FOR SAXOPHONE QUARTET: The work, in 12/8 time, moves in a rapid furioso. Underscored by a continues eighth note rhythm, the work creates in the listener the sensation of a frantic rollercoaster ride. The theme moves throughout all the parts and, following a chromatically moving chord sequence, ends in a dramatic crescendo.

This work was first performed by the Rascher Quartet in July 1995 at the Schleswig Holstein Festival in Hasselburg Germany. A version of the work with orchestral accompaniment 'Concerto for Four Saxophones' was premiered by theRascher Quartet with the Stockholm Radio Orchestra in September 1995.Parts available: DU10494
