Euphonium,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792533 Composed by Vincent d'Indy. Arranged by Ralph Sauer. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Score and part. 19 pages. Gordon Cherry #5008365. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792533). Paul Marie Théodore Vincent d'Indy was born in Paris into an aristocratic family of royalist and Catholic persuasion. He had piano lessons from an early age from his paternal grandmother, who passed him on to Antoine François Marmontel and Louis Diémer. His main influence was Cesar Franck. These three pieces were some of his many works for Piano.Opus 33 was inspired by a trip to Bayreuth, the musical home of Wagner and the Black Forest region. Opus 33 no. 1 from 1889 is titled ? with no explanation of itself. Opus 33 no. 10 is titled Lermoos, which is a delightful skiing village in Austria right on the border with Germany. Germany's largest mountain is in perfect view, possibly giving the movement its spirit. Opus 28 is a Serenade for Violin and Piano published in 1900. It is lithe, subtle and lyrical.

Euphonium,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792165 Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Sauer, Ralph. Romantic Period. Score and part. 16 pages. Gordon Cherry #3820413. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792165). Elgar wrote two lovely contrasting works, opus 15, for Violin around the 1890’s, the Chanson de Nuit and Chanson de Matin. They were titled in French as his publisher suggested the British public would find them more appealing to purchase. The Chanson de Nuit and Chanson de Matin became his best selling works to that point and added much needed funds for the family finances. The Romance, opus 62 was originally written for the Bassoon as a lyrical work with orchestra, as Elgar tried to get away from the usually comical writing for the instrument.Mr. Sauer has combined the three delightful works into a three movement suite for Euphonium of about 12 minutes in length for advanced performers.

Brass Quintet - Three Pastoral Sketches
Brass quartet : 2 trumpets, trombone, tuba

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767578 Composed by Mike Lyons. Contemporary. Score and parts. 81 pages. Lyons Music Services #6422239. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767578). These three pieces form a small suite, linked by the idea of ‘pastoral’ or rustic situations and places. The first piece to be written now forms the middle movement, though at first it was the starting point. This is not easy music. It travels through several keys with large numbers of sharps and flats and in places the time signature shifts constantly. The first movement is modal, being based on the mixolydian and dorian modes. I took for this movement the idea of ancient Celts celebrating a victory and dancing and getting drunk around a smoky fire. Their chieftain strikes up a song, accompanied by a double drone. This melody is initially stated on the horn, with just two other instruments providing the accompaniment. At 4 before B, the remaining instruments join in, providing a rhythmic pulse and the melody moves to the Euphonium/Baritone/Trombone. Subtle variations shape the melody anew, leading to letter C. Here the complex overlapping rhythms provide a more dance-like feel to the music. Also, countermelodies start to appear which build the excitement. At letter E, the music becomes louder and the rhythmic pulse more insistent (perhaps they are dancing on the tables?) The mode changes to the more major sounding mixolydian. But from here on in, the revellers are starting to wend their way home, still singing and dancing and they gradually fade into the distance. At letter G, we’re back to three players, but with the trumpet 1 playing a rhythmic melody over the top of the original tune. The second movement is called The Aesthetes. The aesthetic movement was formed in the 19th century, but had been around before that in less formal garb. Their ideal was to emulate the Ancient Greeks and Romans – or at least their perception of what the ancients were like as found in statues, paintings and friezes. They adopted studied poses and were very effete in their mannerisms. Gilbert and Sullivan parodied the aesthetic movement in their operettas – particularly Princess Ida (but also in the Mikado and various others). So, here is a movement with classical lines in the style of a minuet, but in 6/8 rather than ¾ so that it can be more languid. All the melodies are ‘studied’ and ‘formal’ with long, languid notes and rhythms which don’t quite fit to the beat as the aesthetes pose and ponder and languidly look, studied and pale and wan. Because of the long notes in the melody, there’s an almost dream-like quality to the music as if they are seeing through a haze of Wormwood or Absinthe (a favourite drink of the aesthetes when they weren’t high on themselves or opiates). The third and final movement is called The Bohemians. This was also a movement at the end of the 19th Century. Where the aesthetes were ruled by rules, the Bohemians lived by none. They were considered wild and unconventional to say the least. The Bohemians movement owed much to the supposed free life and style of the gypsies and wanderers of Europe. Our piece starts with a gypsy violin style opening, including a cadenza, and then moves into the rapidly time shifting and gyrating gypsy dance. This section is in alternating bars of 5/8 and 6/8 with occasional 11/8 thrown in to keep you off balance. The frantic and frenetic movement continues up to letter F where things calm down a little – but not for long as the intensity increases again from Letter H to the quite sudden ending. This is tuneful yet challenging music which will take a lot of effort, but which will give a lot back in return.

Instrumental Duet Euphonium,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552413 Composed by Leo Delibes (1836-1891. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Holiday,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 7 pages. Jmsgu3 #6342753. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552413). Duo of the flowers from Lakme, Act I. A popular wedding selection.Leo Delibes (1836-1891) was a French composer of the Romantic period best known for his ballets and operas. He was a child prodigy and began composing music at the age of seven. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he developed a mastery of the symphonic form and wrote several pieces for the orchestra. His works for the stage are among the most popular and beloved of the Romantic era, including the ballets Coppélia and Sylvia, and the opera Lakmé.Delibes was a pioneer in the use of orchestral color and instrumental effects to enhance the dramatic narrative of his works. His works are often praised for their lyricism, graceful melodies, and colorful orchestrations. His music is considered to be a bridge between the grandiose and romantic works of the French composers before him, such as Gounod and Berlioz, and the more intimate and melodic style of composers like Debussy and Ravel.Delibes’ influence can be heard in the works of later composers such as Stravinsky and Prokofiev, and his music continues to be performed and enjoyed today. His contributions to music history are significant, and his works remain beloved masterpieces of the Romantic era.Léo Delibes' opera Lakmé is an opera in three acts. It was first performed in 1883 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris. The libretto was written by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille. The story is set in British-occupied India and tells the story of a young Indian girl, Lakmé, who is in love with a British officer, Gerald. The story follows the couple's romantic journey, as well as the obstacles they face from Lakmé's father and the British military. The opera is best known for its beautiful score, which includes the famous aria The Flower Duet as well as the duet Lakmé! The Bell Song. The opera has been performed in opera houses all over the world and is considered one of Delibes' most popular works. The Duo des Fleurs, composed by French composer Léo Delibes, is a ballet pas de deux from the ballet Lakme, Act I. It is a beloved masterpiece of the Romantic period and is often performed as a standalone piece in many ballet performances. The piece is typically danced by two female ballet dancers and is known for its playful and lighthearted nature. The music consists of a melody that alternates between the two dancers and is often accompanied by a lighthearted waltz. The music has a strong sense of unity and connection between the two dancers, which is enhanced by the use of the same melody. The piece also features a beautiful soaring coda that gives it a sense of grandeur and beauty. The Duo des Fleurs is an exquisite piece of music and an enduring classic of the ballet repertoire.

Small Ensemble Euphonium,Horn,Tuba - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.917404 Composed by Gregory Fritze. 20th Century,Concert,Standards. Score and parts. 61 pages. Musica Nova USA #4984119. Published by Musica Nova USA (A0.917404). Three Pieces for Tuba Ensemble is a collection of three pieces that were composed at different times for different occasions. This set makes up a good suite for concert performance. Although listed as a tuba ensemble compositions, euphoniums usually play the higher two parts. All three are written in five parts. Optional substitute parts for French Horn and Flüglehorn are also included in this set, as well as euphonium parts in treble clef.Salutation Fanfarewas composed in 1985 for performance at the New York Brass Conference at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. That year, famous tubist Harvey Phillips was being honored at a special concert. This piece started the concert with the composer conducting an ensemble of about twenty euphonium and tuba players made up of Indiana University alumni, free-lance musicians and other friends of Mr. Phillips. The piece is based on the phrase Harvey Phillips Mr. Tuba. Simple Giftsis a traditional American folksong that has been arranged by many composers over the years. This arrangement was done in 1990 for performance at the International Tubists Universal Brotherhood Association Conference held in Sapporo, Japan. It was premiered by the Colonial Tuba Quartet that year. It has been arranged in four parts as well as this arrangement in five parts.Octubafest Polkawas composed in 1976 at the request of Harvey Phillips for performance at the Octubafest activities at Indiana University. It was premiered by the Indiana University Tuba Ensemble that year, conducted by Harvey Phillips. Mr. Phillips was the first to use the word Octubafest, probably in 1974 or 1975. Octubafest celebrations have taken place at many schools and universities ever since, usually in the month of October. He said that having an Octubafest celebration early in the school year provided an opportunity for new students entering college to get to know each other. At Indiana University during Harvey Phillips’ tenure (1973 – 1996) the Octubafest concerts were always followed by a party at Harvey’s house, making for a good time for all. Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer and conductor. He recently retired from Berklee College of Music where he was Professor and Chair of Composition, serving on the faculty from 1979 to 2016. He has written over ninety compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally, including First Prize in the 1991 TUBA International Etude Composition Competition, for his Twenty Characteristic Etudes for Tubaan important part of the tuba pedagogy repertoire. His compositions include works published by several publishers in the United States, South America and Europe and have been performed extensively throughout the world. He has been a frequent traveler to Spain since 1993 and has promoted compositions by Spanish composers around the world. He is the only composer who has been commissioned six times by Spanish bands for Certamen competitions, with each band winning first prize. He has thirty-three compositions commercially recorded on Albany Records, MSR Classics, Crystal Records, Mark Records and others. He has been a guest lecturer, conductor and performer at many colleges, universities and music festivals in the United States, Canada, Japan, South America and Europe. Euphonium Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955741 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Phil Thrift. 20th Century,Classical. Individual part. 55 pages. Phil Thrift #6362953. Published by Phil Thrift (A0.955741). Claude Debussy’s two sets of Préludes for piano have always been among my favorites and I have selected these three from Livre 1 because they work well on low instruments. If you are unfamiliar with the Préludes, I suggest you listen to some recordings first to get an idea of what these pieces are all about. You can then perhaps introduce your own ideas. Debussy specified the very slow tempo for Footprints…, but the other tempos are just my suggestions. Likewise, the translations of the less familiar French terms are mine, and you may wish to rethink them. These pieces will really test your quartet’s ability to play together. The score is in bass clef, but alternative treble clef parts are included.

Brass Ensemble Euphonium - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726704 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Ralph Sauer. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 80 pages. Gordon Cherry #334978. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.726704). Bach's Three-Part Inventions, BWV 787-801 (also known as Sinfonias) were composed in Köthen, Germany around the year 1720 for harpsichord. Each work is characterized by the contrapuntal working of a single melodic line. The fifteen short pieces cover eight major and seven minor keys. Bach included with the collection of the Two and Three-Part Inventions these instructions to students of music: Forthright instruction, wherewith lovers of the clavier, especially those desirous of learning, are shown in a clear way not only 1) to learn to play two voices clearly, but also after further progress 2) to deal correctly and well with three obbligato parts, moreover at the same time to obtain not only good ideas, but also to carry them out well, but most of all to achieve a cantabile style of playing, and thereby to acquire a strong foretaste of composition. Ralph Sauer has newly arranged these fifteen small masterpieces for three euphoniums in one single collection. which is appropriate for advanced performers.

Euphonium,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549899 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 7 pages. Jmsgu3 #3627117. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549899). BARITONE HORN (T.C.) and PIANO. The famous Pachelbel Canon arranged for Baritone Horn & Piano. Great choice for weddings & receptions! Pachelbel's Canon Pachelbel's Canon is, in fact, the traditional title for a composition by the German composer Johann Pachelbel. Other names for the work include namely: Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo, Canon and Gigue in D, and of course Canon in D. We do not know when or why in particular it was written. The oldest copy is surprisingly from the 19th century. It is important to realize that it was a common routine for organists to practice improvisation on the chord progression underlying the canon. Pachelbel originally scored the Canon notably for three violins and continuo. He also in fact paired the Canon with a gigue. The movements are homotonal, to clarify, both are in the key of D major. History In due time, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style and remained in virtual oblivion for centuries. The Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra, however, recorded an arrangement of it in 1968. As a result, it gained approval.  Many ensembles began likewise to record the piece in the 1970s and by the 1980s became ubiquitous as background music. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, pop songs correspondingly used elements of the piece. The chord progression, in particular, was used this way. Also, since the 1980s, it has been not only wildly popular for weddings, but also for funeral ceremonies in the USA and Europe. Pachelbel Background Johann Pachelbel (1653 –1706) was a German composer, as well as an organist. He was furthermore instrumental in bringing the south German organ school to its apex. He wrote a large body of music, both sacred and, equally important, secular. In particular, he uniquely helped develop the chorale prelude and fugue. For this, he has, in fact, earned a rightful place in the company of the most significant composers of the mid-Baroque period. Works Pachelbel's music was certainly popular. With this in mind, he also consequently had many pupils. His music expressly developed into a model for the south German composers. Nowadays, Pachelbel is most famous particularly for the Canon in D, as well as the F minor Chaconne, the Toccata in E minor, and of course the Hexachordum Apollinis, a set of variations for the keyboard. Influences Johann Jakob Froberger and Johann Caspar Kerll were south German composers who significantly influenced Pachelbel. Furthermore, he was especially influenced by Italians such as Frescobaldi and Poglietti. He frequently preferred an articulate, simple contrapuntal style that highlighted clarity. His music is markedly less extravagant and harmonically adventurous than that of Dieterich Buxtehude. However, as a point often overlooked, like Buxtehude, Pachelbel experimented with different instrumental combinations in his chamber music. LegacyAll in all, Pachelbel was most famous as a composer for the keyboard. He composed over two hundred pieces specifically for the instrument. Pachelbel was also surprisingly a prolific composer of vocal music. All in all, about a hundred vocal works survive, including 40 or so large-scale works.

Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552860 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3516929. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552860). Duration: ca 5:20, Score: 8 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 4 pages. One of Beethoven's finest and most famous works. Program for a recital, church meditation or school program. Bring your best espressivo and plan to rehearse the many subtle dynamic changes.Sonata Pathétique Op. 13 First of all, this is an arrangement of the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. It seems like Beethoven wrote this piece before becoming troubled by deafness. Published in 1799, it consequently remains one of the most celebrated pieces Beethoven ever wrote. As a result of its popularity, the movement was therefore performed by Karl Haas. Hass recorded it for a popular radio show called: Adventures in Good Music. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna for the rest of his life. In his late 20s, it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently, he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies, therefore, belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony, he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano.

Beethoven: Suite for Mechanical Organ (Clock) WoO 33 Mvt. 3 Allegro - low brass trio (bass clef)

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Low Brass Trio,Trombone,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553506 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Classical,Holiday,Wedding. Score and parts. 5 pages. RayThompsonMusic #2999109. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553506). The Five pieces of music which are now known as the Suite for the Mechanical Organ or the Suite for Mechanical Clock (WoO33) surfaced after Beethoven's death, bringing with them several very puzzling mysteries. Most challenging of them all was the instrument for which they were written. Piano, strings, harp and most other common instruments were instantly ruled out, building on the perplexing mystery and adding to the frustration. Eventually, Albert Kopfermann set forth a convincing argument that their strange scoring seemed a perfect fit for the Flötenuhr or Spielühr, a mechanical organ or clock. He observed that the notation in No. 1, in F, matched that in Mozart's K. 608 Fantasia (for Flötenuhr), the score of which Beethoven possessed. Other circumstantial factors pointed to the Flötenuhr as the instrument Beethoven designed these pieces for. None of these five pieces was published until the twentieth century, and, not surprisingly, all are rarely heard. This is my arrangement of Mvt 3 Allegro for a brass trio of 3 euphoniums/ trombones. It will work work equally well with any three similar bass clef brass instruments or a mix of euphs and tuba.Trombonists will obviously ignore the trills in part 1.I have simplified some of the semi quaver passages, and moved some of the notes to fit within the range of the instrument(s).Fun for all 3 players.Enjoy!!

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Low Brass Trio,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.810921 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Sauer, Ralph. Classical. Score and parts. 120 pages. Gordon Cherry #3859573. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.810921). The Five Divertimenti K. 439b consists of 25 pieces originally scored for two clarinets or basset horns and bassoon. It is assumed that Mozart wrote these works for the Stadler brothers, Anton (famous for the Clarinet Concerto) and Johann. Originally scored in C major (Mr. Sauer has arranged them in keys that are more suitable for the Euphonium), the 25 pieces were grouped into five movements each. The styles of the movements include Sonata-allegro, Minuet and Trio, Larghetto, Adagio, Rondo and even a Polonaise. This collection of the Five Divertimenti is an immense amount (about 45 minutes and 120 pages total) of very entertaining music, all beautifully arranged by Ralph Sauer for three advanced performers. The third part may be performed on the Tuba.

Bassoon,Cello,Double Bass,Trombone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792356 Composed by David Brubeck. Blues,Jazz. 16 pages. Gordon Cherry #4806783. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792356). A visual stereogram represents a 3-D image while looking though a pair of 2-D images. There are special viewers that are used to give this effect where two images viewed through the special device can give a 3-D or stereographic effect. Brubeck's Stereograms for Bass Clef Instruments are musical versions of the graphic form. Brubeck uses familiar folk melodies to create his Stereograms and adds jazzy twists to many of them. The musical version may contain two or three individual parts within a single melodic line, thus the musical 3-D Stereogram is created. Bach’s unaccompanied works have underlying multiple parts in them and Brubeck has been inspired by the Master to create a similar texture in these works. They are suitable encore pieces or performance pieces, alone or grouped into ad hoc suites. Brubeck’s music requires rhythmic accuracy and multiple tonal colors, and are especially useful as sight reading tools to keep the performer sharp and on his/her toes. He has also added octave suggestions to allow them to be playable by the widest array of bass clef instruments Each Stereogram is dedicated to a special musical hero in Brubeck’s life. Excellent as study etudes or sight-reading pieces, Stereograms can be performed/practiced by Trombonists, Bass Trombonists, Tubists and Euphoniumists. The 13 melodies used in Volume I are: You Are My Sunshine, This Little Light of Mine, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, When the Saints Go Marching In, Just a Closer Walk With Thee, Frère Jacques, On Top of Old Smokey, If You're Happy and You Know It, London Bridge is Falling Down, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Jesus Loves Me, Have You Ever Seen a Lassie, Go Tell Aunt Rhody.
