The Austrian composer Leonhard von Call (or Leonard de Call) is best known for his various chamber works for flute, violin and guitar. The present Trio in D, no 1 of his Opus 2, has been conservatively edited from the Trio pour trois flutes, compose par Leonard de Call (Paris, n.d. [c. 1800]). Delightfully melodic and utterly characteristic of a minor work of the period, this is a rare and valuable addition to the very limited library of original classical works for flute trio.
