William Blake (1757 - 1827 ) was an English poet and
painter who contributed to the Romantic period of arts.
He was largely unrecognised in his lifetime but today
is widely regarded as an important figure in the
history of poetry and visual arts - In 2002, Blake was
placed at number 38 in the BBC's poll of the greatest
100 Great Britons.
He was something of a maverick in his lifetime and defended the rights of women, and promoted gender equality. Blake lived most of his life in London.<...(+) | |||||
