Ajoutée par magataganm, 07 Jui 2013 Dirk Jans Sweelinck (1591-1652) was born in Amsterdam, Holland and was the son of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and became his successor as organist of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. He was a member of the Muiderkring . Sweelinck junior is regarded as the creator of a surviving anonymous series of variations for piano (organ, harpsichord) on the Lutheran hymn "Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern" (How beautiful the morning star shines). The four-part setting of the hymn of this series is almost identical to a vocal setting - with his name as author and, included in the famous 17th-century music edition 'Livre Septième. Although originally written for Chorus, I created this arrangement for Brass Ensemble (Bb Trumpets (2), French Horn & F Tuba). |
