Iranian Folk Songs (Climates)
One of the most valuable cultural and artistic
treasures of any nation, land, or ethnic group is its
local (folk) music. This music is not an individual
creation but a social expression, a creative group art,
a form of art evolution. The artist is not merely a
copyist of life but an interpreter and transformer of
it. Authentic Iranian music derives its identity from
local music, and its authenticity owes to the music of
the regions. Local music is very diverse and has roots
in the history of various ethnic groups. Each group and
locality has used a specific type of it for centuries.
Although most of these modes can be found in the
periods of ancient Iranian music, the most important
feature of this music is its modal nature. Each region,
ethnic group, and locality has adopted and familiarized
itself with a particular type of it, and the musical
expression of modes in each region and ethnic group
differs from others.
This collection is an arrangement of native songs from
different regions of Iran and Iranian folk songs that
have been reconstructed in a modernist way and written
for symphonic orchestra and choir. With a modernist
expression in terms of instrumentation and polyphony in
Iranian music, it strives to align with global
orchestral music while maintaining an Iranian essence.
In arranging these pieces, an effort has been made to
create a new harmonic and contrapuntal space by taking
a serious and different approach to the native sounds
of Iran, without compromising the melody lines. The
composer's innovative instrument, the Iranian
microtonal lyre-guitar, plays a role in this musical
work for the first time in contrast to the Iranian
national orchestra.
