Added by michelnossorguine, 16 Sep 2023 “The Peace Offering” designates the instant prayer addressed by the Church to God, during the holy liturgy, so that He transforms the fruits brought by the community, the bread and the wine, into the Body and Blood of the Christ, offered to communion for the remission of sins and eternal life. This is the heart of the Christian liturgy. In the Byzantine tradition, the choir (spokesperson of the people) responds to the acclamations of the clergy, then glorifies, like the angels and children welcoming Jesus to Jerusalem, the Lord. Finally, a very fervent prayer introduces the descent of the Holy Spirit on the consecrated gifts. The score proposed here does not use a cyclical melody as the “usual” ones do, but is based directly on the unfolding of the text. |
