Johann Michael Haydn (1737-1806), the younger brother
of Joseph Haydn, in 1795 composed the ‘Romance’
for horn, 2 violins, viola and violoncello A-flat major
MH 806. The melody of this piece is practically
identical to the second movement of Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart’s horn concerto E-flat major K 447. In order
to make the piece accessible to the basset horn, we
transposed Haydn’s Romance to B-flat major. By this
action the horn part remains unchanged, and only the
