One might think this would be sad, violent music, but each earthly creature is shown in its musical habitat where it happily does what it does best....bees buzzing around flowers, cuckoos gently calling in the forest, Walruses jumping not so gracefully onto sea ice, Jaguars quietly stalking their prey. The habitat changes are depicted by gradual use of unstable scales, and the sometimes hidden ancient tune of the Dies Irae, the Day of Wrath.The point I wish to make is how humans must be watchful of wildlife habitats because we are all in this limited world together. Where wild creatures go, so do we. It was best said by Jane Goodall: Only if we understand can we care. Only if we care will we help. Only if we help shall they be saved.Argentine Jaguars (Yaguareté) are experiencing shrinking habitats due to human population growth and cutting of forests. In this piece I imagined a Jaguar slowly stalking its prey, moving silently on velvet paws. She moves carefully but with barely hidden energy, pausing, then freezing, then suddenly pouncing. Surprise! Sadly, the Dies Irae music plays on. .

Honey Bees have been having issues with some types of insecticides and diseases and whole areas of hives have died off. Walruses are huge aquatic animals who are powerful and swift in the water, but when they jump onto sea ice to rest, they are anything but graceful. They are a bit comical, really. Subsistence hunters in the Bering Strait of Alaska are having trouble with their Spring hunts due to gradual warming of the arctic waters. Sea ice is getting thinner and the Walruses they rely upon to live are getting too far away. This Walrus Jump music is a pretty happy sounding boogie woogie that shows signs of musical distress as it goes on.

Ever since the composer and pianist Peter Ludwig (*1951) heard Angel Villoldo's famous tango 'El Choclo' in the 1970s, this dance, the awareness of life evident in the tango, has fascinated him. And so he began to write tangos himself, bridging the gap between Latin American and European music cultures. Peter Ludwig presents three of his tangos in arrangements for clarinet and piano: 'Cäsar', dedicated to a dog, 'Firpo Tango', in memory of the ingenious Argentine tango musician Roberto Firpo, and 'Lisboa', a melancholy bow to the Portuguese metropolis – a rewarding and exciting addition to the clarinet repertoire.

The piece was featured in (at least) five CDs by different artists. Tengo un tango was composed in Cologne (Germany) in 2004. This piece (here arranged for clarinet and piano by the composer), which duration is approximately 5'40 (or less if you don't play all repetitions), is dedicated to two friends of the composer, Nicola B. Lahn and Walter Samsel, for their marriage. When it began to increase in popularity, the composer arranged this piece for 20 or more different instrumentations ranging from guitar quartet to piano trio and several chamber music combinations from duo to nonet. Mansfield Sunset (2006) for solo Eï¢ clarinet was written for and isdedicated to Dennis Báthory-Kitsz and Stevie Balch on their 10th wedding anniversary.Although the work is intended as a stand-alone concert piece, there are references intertwinedthroughout to the couple’s life and work together. The overall inspiration comes from thelandscape of the state of Vermont and particularly Mt. Mansfield.The opening section is flexible and fantastic – forcefully full of energy and life. A deliberatepassage leads to the next section – fast and fleeting, with a “quicksilver†character that perhapsreflects the horses of the Argentum Fugit farm in Vermont. The final section recalls the mood ofthe opening, but more haltingly – bringing into play a brief quotation (which is shown has beenrelated to the musical material all along). After this aborted recapitulation winds down in asimilar way to the first section, a dramatic coda emerges – leading to the final notes of power,brightness and joy.In terms of musical material, the work is an exploration of the expansion and contraction of atotal chromatic row, settling into lyrical tonally centered gestures.

Juan MarÃa Solare: Hamacando a las mellizas (Swinging Twins or Swinging the twins) a children blues for piano This work was born -precisely- while rocking (swinging) my twins Laura and Alma, as an improvised melody that accompanied their activity (or rather mine). From there to write it down there was only one step. As a second theme, it seemed appropriate to invert the melody, since twinhood implies a certain specular symmetry. Hamacando a las mellizas has the traditional structure of the twelve-bar blues, and a merry, innocent and carefree character. Hamacando a las mellizas was composed in Bremen (Germany) between June 21 and 23, 2020. Shortly afterwards, adaptations for a variety of instrumental combinations were written, such as - alto saxophone, double bass and piano (*) - clarinet, double bass and piano - violin and piano - clarinet quartet The version for clarinet quartet was premiered within the framework of the IV International Festival of Clarinets of San MartÃn de los Andes (Argentina), which took place online from November 12 to 15, 2020.
