One of the few early works of Holst to survive his scrupulous self-criticism is an unassuming setting of the Ave Maria for eight-part female chorus. Completed in 1900, shortly after he abruptly left the Royal College of Music, the composition is dedicated to the memory of his mother, Clara Lediard Holst, who died when he was a child.Scored here for Trombone Octet, “ Ave Maria “ is a lovely setting for a haunting rendition of a familiar theme. Antonio Lotti (5 January 1667 – 5 January 1740) was an Italian Baroque Composer who wrote several settings of The Crucifixus, the 8 voice being the most popular. The blend of trombones is perfect for this particular arrangement and is very playable for moderatly experienced players and would be a great addition to any concert, recital or as a contest piece. Published by James Haynor (A0.782216). William Byrd (birth date variously given as c.1539/40 or 1543 – 4 July 1623), was an English composer of the Renaissance. He wrote in many of the forms current in England at the time, including various types of sacred and secular polyphony, keyboard (the so-called Virginalist school), and consort music. Although he produced sacred music for Anglican services, sometime during the 1570s he became a Roman Catholic and wrote Catholic sacred music later in his life. Tallis was the first English composer to set English words to music for the Church. 1. If you love me 2. Verily, verily I say unto you 3. Gloria Patri Number 1. is his most famous anthem, written in English as decreed by King Henry VI. Number 2, also an anthem, but to be used during the Anglican communion service. Number 3, Gloria Patri is a Doxology or short hymn of praise to God used by Catholics and high Anglicans. These three short works total about 3 1/2 minutes in length. The music is appropriate for moderately advanced performers, the first player should have a good high C (the first part is in tenor clef).
