Theme & Variations The delight for the performer and listener is to emphasize the unique traits of each variation while celebrating their similarities. A great audience toe-tapper (mostly!). Each variation’s title indicates how to play it; further notes below. 1 PLAYFUL Stretches the theme’s rhythms for a friendly teasing. 2 MAJESTIC This variation indulges in the compound meter exploration of the theme. Emphasize the linear lines and the ornamental notes will shine. 3 BRIGHT Practice the intervallic phrasing until you can hear what note follows which. Then bang it around for a jaunty, vigorous performance. 4 AGILE Practice slow then add speed. The luscious 16th notes energize the phrases and give them wit. 5 TEARFUL Let the notes do the work-don’t try too hard. 6 FESTIVE Must use repeats. A gigue that washes away the previous variation’s mood. Always emphasize the one-two bounce feel throughout. 7 TREMENDOUS Molto expressivo. This A section is anguish; B is reflective, loving, and then tender. 8 CHICKEN Chicken chickens chicken. Chicken! 9 FANTASTICAL No repeats: just a glorious monstrosity of extraordinariness. Get ugly. 10 MARCH Must use repeats. If you clip the dotted notes and focus on the one-two, one-two march rhythm, the melody will soar. 11 BLUES Be sure to swing it and adjust the tempo so the bluesy sound comes through. 12 A CARNIVAL NEAR VENICE Akin to variation 2. Practice it slow and build up speed. Nothing more than the theme with a compound voice in the upper register. 13 FUGUE Distinguish the two lines and it’ll be like playing two tubas simultaneously. Practice slow to learn to differentiate the two voices and it’ll be a dazzler. 14 FAREWELL A bittersweet mixture of bold thankfulness for the joyous discoveries and sadness for having to say goodbye. Be aggressive with the arpeggios for the harmony to resound.

?The holly and the ivy/When they are both full grown/Of all the trees that are in the wood/The holly bears the crown.? So go the opening words to this cheerful, upbeat Christmas song. The lyrics appeared as broadsides in early nineteenth century Birmingham, England. The melody was first published in Cecil J. Sharp?s 1911 English Folk-Carols; on page 63 of the collection?s ?Notes on the Carols? section, Sharp wrote that he heard the tune sung by "Mrs. Mary Clayton, at Chipping Camden." (An alternative version linked the words to a melody identified as "old French carol.") This version is a fast-moving and fun treatment of the Sharp/Clayton melody. It includes, among other things, a call-and-response variation, a running tuba solo, an alternative ?verse? tune and a countermelody section featuring ?Deck the Halls.? There are two key changes, trumpets play a couple of B-above-the-staff notes, and the time signature changes from ¾ to 4/4 near the end. Ran Whitley has compiled and beautifully arranged Twelve Hymn Preludes and Offertories for 4-part Brass Ensemble. They are playable by most performers of intermediate level and higher. Each piece is a complete arrangement on its own. It opens at a fast clip with a statement of ?Good-Night, Ladies? followed by a four-measure vamp that is subsequently repeated after nearly every section. First, horn and tuba perform ?There is a Tavern in the Town.? Second, trombone and trumpets combine to ask, ?Bill Bailey, Won?t You Please Come Home.? Third is a close-harmony, ensemble version of ?Goin? Home.? Fourth features exchanges between trumpets and low brass in ?Toot, Toot, Tootsie!? Fifth is an amalgam of all the tunes; this is played four times, each time featuring a different instrument, which then drops out for the rest of the number. The tuba ends the piece and takes a bow. This arrangement was completed in 2014, and performance time runs about 3 minutes, 56 seconds. It features Daniel Craig in his fifth and final outing as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. It is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Léa Seydoux, and Christoph Waltz reprise their roles from previous films, with Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Dali Benssalah, Billy Magnussen, and Ana de Armas joining the cast.<br> <br> <br> <br> The theme song is sung by the American singer Billie Eilish. In January 2019, Eilish told her management that she wanted to be involved "if any Bond things come up…whatever we have to do we will do". When the opportunity did arise, the pair jumped into action to book a recording studio, but it left them "intensely uninspired" and suffering from writer's block. Following this lacklustre day in the studio and they ended up writing and recording the song in a tour bus in Texas, after Finneas came up with an initial chord progression; in just three days the song was written and recorded. Prior to this, the siblings had a meeting with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, who sent them the script for the opening scene in order to give them a bit of inspiration, which Eilish said was "so cool" and "really, really helpful."<br> <br> Finneas claimed it was useful to go back to listen to previous Bond themes to ensure they were on the right track and did not copy or recreate something which had already been done before, adding that "there are few things in your career that are as desirable as doing a Bond song.
