Published by Assi Rose Methods (A0.1099867). A Russian folk song from the 19th century. The original lyrics are in Russian , it is about the story of a meeting between a merchant and a girl. This poem is based on an earlier version of a poem by Nekrasov , printed in 1861 on the Sovremennik magazine. The style and tempo of the song led this folk song to become a world wide popular song. Became a world wide popular composition outside Russia in 1989 as The Tetris theme' in the version of Nintendo game, rearranged by a Japanese composer: Hirokazu Tanaka. Korobeiniki ia a name for peddlers with trays ,merchants who sold fabrics, books and other small items in old Russia, before the revolution. Nekrasov's poem is longer, The story is about a young peddler who seduces a peasant girl named Katya in a rye field. He offers her some of his products as gifts in exchange for sexual favours. She rejects all but she ends up accepting a ring he offered. The next morning, he asked her to marry him. The poem ends sadly with the peddler being robbed and killed by a forest ranger.

This is one of the most popular songs of the Eighties, thanks to the Simple Minds and the film “The Breakfast Clubâ€.The Scottish rock band Simple Minds recorded this song in 1985 for the film which became a cult hit, as did the theme song. The song was written specifically for the movie by songwriters Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff.Simple Minds were reluctant to perform the song since it was not written by them. But gradually it found its way to the playlist and became one of the highlights of their live shows, when the audience sings “lalalala†for minutes.This arrangement for accordion orchestra starts in a ‘classical bombastic’ style, on a slower tempo, but picks up the tempo when the typical drum riff starts. There is a lot of dynamic movement: from soft verses, only 2 voices playing, to bombastic crescendo in the choruses. To get your audience participating, the typical ‘break’ from the live performances is also included, repeating the “lalalala†melody. Lars Ek is the initiator of Frosinisociety founded in 1985, which is to preserve the old accordion music. Lars is now as chairman of the International Frosinisociety and is one of the founders of The World Accordion Music Expo in Ransäter Sweden! The International Frosinisociety he makes through the site www.frosinisociety.org a huge fine job of promote the accordions development and popularity both in Sweden and abroad. Lars works alongside music by an artist agency Music & Underhållningsskrädderiet AB, which he runs together with the family since inception in 1980.
