Some texts are Love divine, all loves excelling, Come, thou long expected Jesus, and Alleluia, sing to Jesus, among many others. This prelude can work in a variety of fashions, whether at a faster tempo and louder registration, or at a slower pace with softer stops. The recording here has both settings, the first loud, and the scond soft. Be creative! It was written and recorded on a two manual instrument. Published by John Burkett (A0.1427990). This Prelude on the Christmas carol tune Christmas Song (There's a Song in the Air) is the first of two settings I have created based on this tune. This setting requires only a two-manual organ and is of moderate difficulty. Structurally, the piece begins with an introduction that makes use of the dotted eighth/sixteenth rhythm that pervades the tune itself. A fresh harmonization of the first two phrases of the tune follows. They are succeeded in turn by an interlude similar to the introduction. A harmonization of the third and fourth phrases of the tune is then presented. A shorter interlude leads to a varied restatement of the last phrase, itself followed by a brief postlude, again employing the aforementioned dotted rhythm. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. My Prelude on the Christmas carol tune Stille Nacht (Silent Night) was created with a 3-manual organ in mind, though it might be possible to play it on a 2-manual instrument, depending on the stop list. The three different settings of the tune are intended to be played as a unit, though the cadence that concludes the second setting allows the performer the option of omitting the final setting. The tune appears first in the left hand, then in the pedals, and finally in the soprano voice. The middle setting, in the dominant key, is harder to play than the outer sections, primarily because of the trio texture and quicker rhythmic movement. As one might expect, the three settings are distinguished from one another primarily by their accompanimental styles and suggested registrations. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. Published by John Burkett (A0.1428009). This Prelude on the Christmas carol tune Christmas Song (There's a Song in the Air) is the second of two settings I have created based on this tune. This setting, like the first, requires only a two-manual organ, but it is a bit harder to play than the first setting. It is a trio in which the right hand plays an eighth-note accompaniment continuously from beginning to end. Phrases of the tune, played by the left hand, are stated in pairs separated by interludes, first in G major and then again in E-flat major. The pedal part provides a slow moving bass line to complete the harmony. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. It was first performed by Andrea Bocelli at the 1995 Sanremo Music Festival, but the more famous version - Bocelli duetting with Sarah Brightman - dates from a year later. Over the years this piece has become extremely popular for inclusion at funeral and memorial services and this organ version will be useful for that purpose amongst others. It requires a two manual organ with pedals although suggestions are included for a larger instrument if available.

My Prelude on the Christmas carol tune Mendelssohn (Hark! the Herald Angels Sing) opens with a brief introduction based on the first measure of the third phrase of the tune. An original harmonization of the entire tune follows, anchored by a repetitive rhythmic pattern of alternating rests and chords. An interlude ensues, which is a rhythmically intensified reworking of the initial introduction. Then the first phrase of the tune sounds in a new key in the pedal bass, accompanied by parallel triads in the hands. Another interlude follows, also based on parallel triads, and leading to a statement in the pedals of the second phrase of the tune. Slightly modified versions of the third and fourth phrases with varied accompaniments lead to a strong cadence. The final section follows, beginning with an extended introduction that increases the rhythmic pace to the point where a constant stream of rapidly moving sixteenth notes drives forward to the final statement of the carol tune, and lends a sense of urgency as the flow continues underneath the melody. The tempo slows slightly during a brief postlude in which the state trumpet reiterates a rhythmic pattern heard earlier. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My Festive Voluntary is cast in a three-part ABA form. The outer sections, in the key of C-sharp minor, convey the effect of a pompous slow-moving march. By contrast, the middle section, in the key of A-flat major, has a song-like character, with its soprano melody supported by by long sustained chords underneath. Then a 14-bar segment, acting as as bridge, assumes the rhythmic character of the first section, while modulating quickly through a succession of keys to reach the key of C-sharp minor once again. The final section recapitulates the first section, though with a few minor changes. This piece serves equally well as a recital piece or church prelude. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for my numerous hymn arrangements, some for organ and others for piano.

My Variations on St. Christopher (Beneath the Cross of Jesus) require a wide range of technical prowess from relatively easy (Variation II) to advanced (Variation VII). The Theme presents the unadorned hymn tune with an original 4-part harmonization. Variation I is another 4-part setting but with a more rhythmically active acompaniment in the lower voices. Variation II, a duo for the hands alone, is in the dominant key where the tune is accompanied by an unrelenting stream of triplets. Variation III is a 3-voice canon in which the tenor and pedal bass imitate the soprano, though with a certain amount of intervallic freedom. Variation IV is a trio in which the middle voice presents an ornamented version of the hymn tune. Variation V is a brief fughetta, while Variation VI presents the tune in the pedals against quietly undulating triplets in the hands. The final variation (entitled Introduction and Fugal Fantasy) is by far the most challenging and employs considerable chromaticism toward the end. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangememts of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My Variations on the hymn tune St. Elizabeth (Fairest Lord Jesus) present the tune with an original harmonization followed by four variations. The first two settings (Theme and Variation I) give out the tune in unaltered form, undergirded by two different harmonizations. Variation II is a duo cast in baroque style with an ornamented melody accompanied by a rhythmically repetitive pattern in the manual bass. In Variation III, a continuously moving accompaniment played by the feet and the left hand provides a backdrop to another ornamented version of the hymn tune, again in a somewhat baroque style. The final variation is more challenging to play. After a brief introduction, the tune appears in the soprano voice, harmonically supported by the alto and pedal bass, while the left hand provides a continuous stream of eighth-note triplets. After a couple of modulations, the final section (marked grandioso) presents the tune with a 4-voice harmonization punctuated at the end of each phrase by a trumpet-like rhythmic pattern played on a state trumpet stop. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My Partita on Sweet Hour (Sweet Hour of Prayer) presents the theme with an original 4-part harmonization followed by five variations. The first variation is a duo in which the tune is set against a continuous stream of sixteenth notes as accompaniment. The second variation is a waltz in the key of F-sharp major in which an ornamented and expanded version of the melody is accompanied by a modified um-pah-pah accompaniment played by the feet and left hand. By contrast, variation three, in the key of B minor, moves at a much slower pace and conveys a rather sombre mood. The next variation set in 5/8 meter is somewhat like a scherzo. Each phrase of the melody is in a different key and has modal inflections that lends it a mildly exotic character The fifth and final variation is a toccata in the French style that requires panache and bravura. The tune is intoned in slow moving rhythm by the feet while the hands provide a rapidly moving sextuplet accompaniment. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

Beginning quietly, introspectively, on manuals alone, at first employing a 5-note, then a 4-note motive, hinting at the first four measures of the hymn tune, slowing building to the finale which begins fortissimo, with grandeur, now echoing the first four measures of the hymn tune's refrain. Here the pedal finally enters, encompassing merely three different pitches (A, D and E). The piece ends with a strong flourish on an E6(add 9) chord, adding a 32' reed in the pedal.
