The Confessions of St. Augustine is a solo for Unaccompanied Horn in F written by Canadian violinist/composer Erika Raum.

St. Augustine (of Hippo) was a 5th Century convert to Christianity who was one of the first philosophers and theologians of the faith. He went on to write a number of important works including the autobiographical work Confessions, a series of thirteen books outlining his sinful youth and eventual conversion to Christianity.

Ms. Raum's music, in four sections features the following tabloids:

Youth and Pagan Beginnings, The Mystical Voice of the Child in the Garden, St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, The Debate at the Baths of Sozius.

This work of almost 7 minutes in length is very expressive, with many contrasting sections and complex rhythms, and is rather moderate in range, being accessible to moderately advanced to advanced performers.

The beautifully performed sample track from the horn version of this work (up a 5th from the trombone version) is played by Howard Wall, Hornist of the New York Philharmonic, taken from his solo recording Horn Monologues for sale on Amazon and elsewhere.

Downton Abbey was a very successful TV series on PBS that ran for 6 seasons from 2010 to 2015. The music for the series was written by John Lunn, and was also quite popular. John Lunn's musical style has its roots in pop and minimalism, which is evident in this piece.

Love and the Hunter has a lighter feel than the main title, and includes syncopated passages throughout its entirety. If you are familiar with the TV series, than this will be quite familiar, as the melody is played in many episodes. What this piece has that the main title piece doesn't is a lot of tempo changes, which makes the repeated melody sound new and different with each change.

This arrangement is scored for 2 oboes, 2 English horns, and 2 bassoons. This is simple enough for musicians with intermediate skills.

Elizabeth Raum's Quartet for Horns was written for the Canadian Horn Quartet in 1998. The four parts are all of equal difficulty and importance and is a "tour de force" for the horn quartet repertoire.

The four movements are self-explanatory: 1. Fanfare, 2. Andante con moto, 3. Scherzo, 4. Echoes.

The work is about 9 minutes in length and is appropriate for advanced performers.
