A great sounding arrangement of A Night in Tunisia arranged for Baritone, Euphonium, Trombone (BC) & Piano, low brass players will love this!A jazz solo is written out for you, if you wish you can improvise on the given chord symbols!A Night in Tunisia is a musical composition written by Dizzy Gillespie around 1941–42, while Gillespie was playing with the Benny Carter band. It has become a jazz standard.It is also known as Interlude. Gillespie called the tune Interlude and said some genius decided to call it 'Night in Tunisia'. He said the tune was composed at the piano at Kelly's Stables in New York. He gave Frank Paparelli co-writer credit in compensation for some unrelated transcription work, but Paparelli had nothing to do with the song. A Night in Tunisia was one of the signature pieces of Gillespie's bebop big band, and he also played it with his small groups. In January 2004, The Recording Academy added the 1946 Victor recording by Gillespie to the Grammy Hall of Fame.On the album A Night at Birdland Vol. 1, Art Blakey introduced his 1954 cover version with this statement: At this time we'd like to play a tune [that] was written by the famous Dizzy Gillespie. I feel rather close to this tune because I was right there when he composed it in Texas on the bottom of a garbage can. The audience laughs, but Blakey responds, Seriously. The liner notes say, The Texas department of sanitation can take a low bow.The complex ostinato bass line in the A section is notable for avoiding the standard walking bass pattern of straight quarter notes, and the use of oscillating half-step-up/half-step-down chord changes (using the Sub V, a tritone substitute chord for the dominant chord) gives the song a unique, mysterious feeling. The B section is notable for having an unresolved minor II-V, since the chord progression of the B section is taken from the B section of the standard Alone Together, causing the V chord to lead back into the Sub V of the A section.Like many of Gillespie's tunes, it features a short written introduction and a brief interlude that occurs between solo sections - in this case, a twelve-bar sequence leading into a four-bar break for the next soloist.

This arrangement has been performed at concerts and weddings by it's creator, Nick Baron, in his own marimba duo, and it is now here on sale for the first time.Seal's masterpiece is poignant, elegant and soulful; these characteristics shared by the marimba with its soft attack and warm resonance make it a perfect fit.The arrangement follows the form of Seal's original but there is creativity in the marimba writing; for example the way a groove is often created between the ostinato rhythms of the two marimbas to suggest the presence of a rhythm section. Both parts are for four mallets and it is written in the key of C#. This arrangement would be an excellent addition to a conservatoire-level concert programme. It's a playful marimba trio that is more modern classical in nature than it is, strictly speaking, funk. Still, it's one of my favorite tracks, and the sixteenth-note syncopation and layered marimbas make for a truly unique piece.

The middle section utilizes the unusual mandolin roll that puts a nice little twist on it.

For the Theme I used an extract from the 1906 hit pop song I Love You Truly by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, a celebrated female composer at the turn of century. With each variation the melody and rhythm evolve further from the original Theme. The tempo also increases slightly as you progress to each new variation. The first variation adds chromatic embellishment, the second variation syncopates the rhythm, and the third variation uses triplet patterns. More life is added to your romance with each variation!Each person who has heard this piece hears something different, but in all of them it conjures up vintage courting; and most say it would fit a soundtrack to an early silent movie. So, at heart, this piece is still a turn of the century love ballad, but livened up and fused with subtle influences from other styles and periods. Perfect for weddings where you are trying to please everyone; a bit pop, a bit classical, and totally romantic!Works equally well in a classroom or lesson studying Theme and Variations. The easy-going melody only has a range of just over an octave. Published by Bruno Cavalcante (A0.981381). In Baroque music, the key of B minor had a melancholy quality. Bach reserved it for a few of his most impressive works, such as the Kyrie in the Mass in B minor. Bach composed his ‘French’ suites as a young man of thirty, when he was working at the court of Köthen. However, the suites have nothing to do with the court. Bach wrote them for teaching purposes in his own private circle. The first five appear in their original form in the little music book he compiled in 1722 for his second wife Anna Magdalena, possibly as a wedding present. But Bach continued to rework the pieces. The later versions, with the addition of a sixth suite, have survived thanks to the many copies made by his pupils. They are rewarding practice pieces that despite a certain compositional complexity (it is Bach, after all), do not make extreme demands on the player.

Duo for Marimba and Piano was composed in 1988 and was premiered that year at the North Carolina Composers' Symposium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina by Eric LeCain and the composer. A very early piece in Ms Sandresky's oeuvre, the piece has a distinctly minimalist feel that reflects her influences of the time. The piece was revised in 1992 to include an optional video component so that half of the duo was prerecorded and presented with the TV monitor in front of the piano where the soloist would normally be. This version was premiered at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art on a concert of Ms. Sandresky's compositions. It has since had the life it was originally intended, as a bravura concert piece for marimba and piano and has been performed in Australia and Poland, as well as the US.
