Published by Matthew Nunes Music (A0.1263852). Listen to this piece hereIn May of 2015 I completed the Concerto for Euphonium and Wind Band for one of my former teachers. Soon after I began realizing that concerti written with tuba-euphonium quartet as the supporting ensemble were extremely rare (and possibly non-existent). Ideal for soloists visiting schools with resident quartets this piece is an attempt to fill a gap in the literature. It is also ideal for larger ensembles.Each movement is connected by manipulations of the motive F, A-flat, and B-flat. Of the plethora of options the relationships between these notes presented I used the minor third and the upper or lower neighbor tones the most frequently, whether it be hidden inside the themes or outlining the work’s largest structures.- Matthew NunesWindsor, September 2015.

I took my favorite hymn My Hope is Built and had some fun with it. Originally written for a small ensemble group I played in for 15 years while in the Marine Corps Band program. The singable melody is played in two of the four parts including the high tuba (or optional 3rd euphonium), while the other parts dance around the melody. This can be used as a great teaching tool for low brass educators and studio professors or teachers. You could also feature your strongest low brass 'valvers' during a Concert Band, or Brass Band Concert or as part of a pre-concert welcoming small ensemble. Either way it is a fun little piece that teaches and entertains.

Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755012). This work was commissioned by the Euphouria Quartet. The composition reflects the composer's feelings about the tragic events of that fateful day. The first movement, Fanfares To Fallen Heroes, is a tribute to the brave firemen, policemen and rescue workers who tirelessly and fearlessly risked and sacrificed their lives in order to save the lives of others. The movement is permeated with fanfare motives that reflect both the bravery displayed and the danger that these people faced. The second movement, Elegy To The Innocent, is a tribute to all the innocent victims and their loved ones who have suffered at the hands of the terrorists. The outer sections have a dirge-like rhythm underpinning a sorrowful melody. The middle section contrasts the dirge by giving a sense of comfort to all that have suffered. The third movement, Justice, represents the struggle and resolve of the United States of America and its allies to eliminate terrorism. Battle motives alternate with a heroic theme throughout the movement. The last movement, Prayer For Peace, represents a hope that all the people of the world can achieve the tolerance and understanding we need to live in harmony and in a civilized manner. The chaconne form is used to represent the uniting of voices as the prayer grows in intensity from beginning to end. A recording by the Euphouria Quartet is available on an Emeritus Recordings CD entitled Echoes – Music for Tuba and Euphonium Ensembles by Sy Brandon and Mark Scott.

As the title suggests, this piece tells the tail of the three main characters (the Princess, Prince and the Evil Witch) The theme of each character is introduced and then the battle to save the Princess commences. Love concurs with a beautifully melodic ending. The Quest is a challenging and worthy contribution to the literature. It is suitable for advanced college or professional players. It is harmonically advanced, yet united by its programmatic elements and musical form. You can't have any more fun "Low Down" than playing the "Tuba Blues 2".
Tuba Blues 2 is a new work in a ?jazzy blues/swing? style for Tuba Quartet (2 Euphoniums and 2 Tubas) plus a Drum Set.
This work follows the great success of the first Tuba Blues by Henry Wolking.
About 5 1/2 minutes in length for advanced performers. Euph 1 & 2 have improvised solos and all the other parts get their share of the limelight in other ways. There is a set of parts for 1st and 2nd Euphonium parts with the solos written out for those needing a bit of help with improvising. An optional drum kit part fills in for a wonderful character piece on your next concert.
