In some of those camps, prisoner musicians had to play classical music to their fellow inmates on the latter's way to death - no return... until the musician had to follow suit. Unlike Nearer my God, to Thee on the Titanic, these musicians were forced to do this. I became so emotionally involved in this arrangement... every sequence has a meaning: the high cries of the women and the children (flügelhorns), the low voices of the concern and physically defeated men (euphonium & french horn), the sirens (french horn), the promise of eternity (euph solo), the tuba (the continuous beat of walking towards one's death) and the perpetual percussion (the clock is ticking...) and the cyclical theme of endless love against all odds, remembering the good times in a dance with your loved one(s). A delicate masterpiece, not very difficult - suitable for a recital encore. Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions. Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. Originally for guitar, it was quite an interesting task figuring out how best to outline the chord structures for a monophonic brass instrument. The arrangement includes a slower, more simple introduction, development sections, chorus sections, and sort of an outtro. The piece is a lovely cross between expressive and technical classical feel and a dancing/driving popular music format complete with verses, choruses and bridges.Often, in the places where the original guitar plays two or more notes in chordal fashion, the euphonium will either play grace notes or an altered rhythm to accommodate the chord structure. The grace notes are always slurred, their length designated by the note values used. Many of the passages are fully articulated rather than slurred, so care will need to be taken to play in the correct style for the arrangement to be performed well. Technical passages, especially those with syncopation, must dance. It is highly recommended to listen to an original guitar recording to get this feel!Additionally, the euphonium will need to breathe, so there are also breathing 'suggestions' in the arrangement. The arrangement doesn't stretch into the lowest euphonium range, but it does hang out on multiple high C's and B's in every chorus, so there is a bit of difficulty there in retaining stability through those passages.Enjoy this arrangement of Classical Gas for Unaccompanied Solo Euphonium!

The Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467, was completed on 9 March 1785 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.The second movement was featured in the 1967 Swedish film Elvira Madigan with Géza Anda as soloist. As a result, the piece has become widely known as the Elvira Madigan concertoHedvig Antoinette Isabella Eleonore Jensen (December 4, 1867 – July 19, 1889), better known by her stage name Elvira Madigan, was a circus performer who performed as a slack rope dancer, artistic rider, juggler and dancer. She is best known today for her romantic relationship with the Swedish nobleman and cavalry officer Sixten Sparre. Their joint death caused great sensation and the event was described in song by, among others, the author Johan Lindström Saxon [sv] in a song beginning Sad things happen, which gained great popularity.Here's a very unlikely arrangement of it for Brass Quintet, with the Horn as soloist. The other brass instruments are also conical, providing a mellow sound. I must emphasize that it would be best not to perform this piece if the intonation, correct notes, ensemble playing, and overall musicality are lacking.

A quirky and imaginative piece, the Carnival features the representations of lions and swans, assortments of fowl, aquatic wonders, and even fossils. The Elephant is based on two themes, the Scherzo from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Felix Mendelssohn and Dance of the Sylphs from The Damnation of Faust by Hector Berlioz. There are plenty of jokes in the Carnival, and no doubt audiences at the time chuckled when hearing familiar themes in a much lower presentation.
