This arrangement is for Late Intermediate Level Piano/Keyboard Duet. The written range is kept mostly within the staff and the appropriate performance range of pitches on the keyboard is achieved by octave displacement, i.e. the Primo part is performed an octave higher than written and the Secondo an octave lower. As the performance range extends beyond that of a 61-note keyboard, an acoustic piano or 88-note keyboard is required if both players are to perform on the same instrument. Another performance option is to use two 61-note keyboards and use the transpose function to displace the parts by an octave (up for Primo, down for Secondo). Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1127872). Incidental music composed for piano duet (4-hands) in four parts by Philip Le Bas to accompany the Japanese folk tale (ghost story) Yuki-Onna (Snow Woman). This piano duet developed out of a cross-cultural project initiated at Morley College, London, in early 2019, aiming to create a melodrama for piano solo and spoken voice to be performed in northern Japan later in the year by young students of the piano. It is based on the ghost-story above, which is widely known in Japan. The tale was transcribed and published by Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) in 1904 as part of his book “Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Thingsâ€, a collection that has been highly influential in expressing popular Japanese culture over the past century. Synopsis of the tale of Yuki-Onna: Two wood-cutters, Mosaku and his apprentice Minokichi, encounter a terrible snow-storm and take shelter in an empty hut by a river. The storm gets worse and worse, but they both finally fall asleep. When Minokichi wakes, he sees a woman all in white bending over Mosaku breathing bright white smoke onto his face. She then approaches Minokichi. She is very beautiful, but her eyes make him afraid. After a while she says, “I intended to do the same to you as I did to the old man, but I feel pity for you because you are a pretty young man. If you ever tell anybody what you have seen, however, I will kill you too.†And she vanishes into the snow storm. It is then that Minokichi discovers Mosaku dead on the floor of the hut. Years later Minokichi meets a beautiful girl, who calls herself O-Yuki. He falls in love with her and they live together in his house, along with his mother, who fortunately takes a liking to her new “honourable daughter-in-law.†Over the years O-Yuki gives birth to ten children and the villagers all agree that she is a wonderful person. But she is somehow different from them, as she continues to look young and fresh, despite the passing years. Minokichi often thinks of telling O-Yuki about the events of years ago, and eventually, as he is gazing at her beauty one night, he can resist it no more. He begins to tell her about the snow storm and the terrifying snow-woman. To his horror O-Yuki becomes more and more angry, and she finally says: “It was me, it was me,… and I said I would kill you if you ever told anyone! But for these children asleep here, I would do so this very moment! You had better take very good care of them; for if ever they have reason to complain of you, I will treat you as you deserve!†As she screams at him her voice becomes thin, like the crying of the wind, and she melts into a bright white mist spiraling into the roof-beams. At that moment it starts to snow, but O-Yuki is never seen again.

Dedicated to Hans-Dieter Ludwig (H.D.). Duration: 3'20. First performance by the composer at the Music Hall in Worpswede on 3rd May 2002. This concert was filmed by Reinhard Hölker, who also held a scholarship at the Künstlerhäuser Worpswede. The Argentine first performance was given by Cecilia Strack on 17th December 2003 at the Conservatorio de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, during a monographic concert (Compositions for Piano by Juan MarÃa Solare) organised by the Professors Silvia Dabul and Manuel Massone. The title is a pan in Spanish: Blues in E minor / Blues in me. At some moment I had a dream related with this piece. I cannot recall exactly when or where, but it must have been during 2003; any case not later. Possibly I've written it down somewhere, I will find it. Reconstructed by memory: It was an open-air concert, maybe in Worpswede. The audience sits down in banks around tables, eating; it is a kind of party. A music sounds that comes familiar to me. I recognized the Blues en mÃ. A young lady is performing it, whom I don't absolutely know. I ask myself: How could this lady get the score? She have possibly found it on the internet. And actually it was this dream that ended up convincing me to put some of my scores in Internet, beginning with the Blues en mÃ. According to my registers, I sent the sheet music to Mariano Rocca (webmaster of compositores e intérpretes, www.ciweb.com.ar) on 2nd November 2003 (ergo, this dream must have occurred before). Simple Salsa was composed for my grandchildren Franklin and Faye and is meant to be fun for new pianists They began piano lessons nine months ago and have made great technical progress and love to perform. The lower part, Piano II, is easier and repeats a basic bass line and simple three note chords. Piano 1 is slightly more difficult but more melodic. The slower section on page two is more melodic and relaxed. The performer can double some of the melody pitches one octave above for more drama and volume. The optional egg shaker part (or any similar shakers) is just a basic Latin rhythm part and is not notated with normal rhythm notation. but just a text suggestion. The music can be played Piano Four Hands or with two pianos. Feel free to add or subtract to the notation and rhythms depending on the level of the young pianists. If other y kids own Latin percussion instruments...they are welcome to join in! Hope you enjoy performing this lively music.

Piano Secondo is ideal for a teacher or intermediate student who is comfortable with reading both hands in bass clef. The harmony changes ever so slightly with each iteration. Only 5 days are written here, but it would be easy to add repeated bars to get through all 12 days. Either way, this makes for a great piece for a young student at a winter recital! Alexander Tfsasman (1906 - 1971) was a Soviet jazz pianist, composer, conductor, publisher, and activist. He was one of the greatest pioneers of jazz in the young Soviet Union, from the period of the mid-1920s until the late 1960s, when he raised to exceptional fame. He was the incarnation of a sort of Russian Gershwin, a wonderful improviser on themes by others, an exceptional piano virtuoso, successful, at least until the end of the Great Patriotic War, when jazz became taboo again in Russia. A wonderful example of Tsfasman's melodious and virtuosic composition is the Jazz Suite (ca. 1945) for piano and orchestra, transcribed for 4-hands piano by Giuseppe Di Bianco.The seductive Lyric waltz must surely have influenced Shostakovich when he wrote his Jazz Suites, while the scintillating opening (Snowflakes) and the madcap virtuosity of the Fast movement (with his cheeky hat-tip to Chopin's octaves Etude) are definitely precursors of Kapustin's style.

It is based on few fragments, motives that are lit in different light each time. The piece starts slow, but increases its intensity and speed as it progresses, utilizing the same motives. While composing the piece, I heard about a young man that threw himself to the river. I tried to imagine that went in his mind and what brought to this dead-end. And again the idea of a built intensity, obsessive and uncompromising came to my mind. At the very end of the piece, there is a sudden drop of intensity followed by a music box passage, as if describing what is going on in the person's mind right after the jump, right after reaching the edge of his life's spiral.
