DOCTOR GRADUS AD PARNASSUM from ?Children?s Corner Suite? by CLAUDE DEBUSSY for PIANO SOLO. The Latin phrase gradus ad Parnassum means "steps to Parnassus?. Debussy composed Children's Corner between 1906 and 1908. This piece is actually a rather ingenious study in finger independence with a Twentieth Century vocabulary. In the middle, the pianist slows down and tries his material in other keys for exercise. Debussy's Doctor Gradus Ad Parnassum is of intermediate difficulty and requires experienced fingers. The pianist gets wilder toward the end and finishes the piece with a bang. Debussy told his publisher that the movement should be played "very early in the morning".This edition also includes a short biography of Debussy and some facts about the piece.

Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 - Beethoven, commonly known as Sonata Pathétique, was written in 1798 when the composer was 27 years old, and was published in 1799. It has remained one of his most celebrated compositions. Although commonly thought to be one of the few works to be named by the composer himself, it was actually named Grande sonate pathétique (to Beethoven's liking) by the publisher, who was impressed by the sonata's tragic sonorities. Prominent musicologists debate whether or not the Pathétique may have been inspired by Mozart's piano sonata K. 457, since both compositions are in C minor and have three very similar movements. The second movement, "Adagio cantabile", especially, makes use of a theme remarkably similar to that of the spacious second movement of Mozart's sonata. However, Beethoven's sonata uses a unique motif line throughout, a major difference from Haydn or Mozart?s creation. This is the original Beethoven arrangement of this sonata.

RUSTLE OF SPRING (Frülingsrauchen Op. 32 No.3) by CHRISTIAN SINDING - PIANO SOLO. Christian Sinding?s most well known work, Rustle of Spring is a solo piano piece written in 1896. It is written in Salon style as a piece meant for entertainment. It was very popular in the United States. Bearing the expression marking agitato, much of the piece is played with a rapid arpeggio in the right hand part, while the left hand carries the melody. The work's title indicates that its sense of constant motion is symbolic of the excited restlessness of springtime. The score has some technically challenging sections, but is, for the most part, easier to play than it sounds, with most of the rapidity made up of simply arpeggiated passages.
