Learn from the master. Johann Sebastian Bach composed countless pieces specifically for his many students. My First Bach contains many of these educational pieces which are, for the most part, arranged in increasing difficulty. Easy two-part chorales and dances are followed by more demanding little preludes, two-part inventions and the first Prelude from the Well-Tempered Clavier.

This ever-popular piece is often performed at weddings, funerals and many other solemn ceremonial events. It has always been a favorite among instrumental players and often used in recitals or concert encores. In 1853, the well-known French composer Charles Gounod added his own melody over a rippling keyboard accompaniment which was a slightly adapted version of the Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV846, from Book I of J. S. Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, published in 1722. The title of the ?combined? piece was Méditation sur le Premier Prélude de Piano de S. Bach. Gounod?s original arrangement transposed Bach?s keyboard part from C major into F major and it was scored for violin (or cello), organ and piano. In 1859, the French music publishing company Jacques-Léopold Heugel brought out a vocal version based on the familiar Latin text. Ave Maria (Hail Mary) is a traditional Catholic prayer addressed to the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus.
The version of Bach's prelude which Gounod used included the so-called "Schwencke measure" (m. 27 in this arrangement), a measure (bar) allegedly added by the German composer and pianist Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke (1767-1822) in an attempt to correct what was considered a harmonic weakness in the original. Whether there actually was a ?harmonic weakness? (or possibly an error in the manuscript) remains a matter of conjecture but the fact remains that the most familiar-sounding version of this piece, recorded countless times by both singers and instrumentalists includes this Schwencke measure. It is therefore included in this arrangement.
Some published arrangements show minor inconsistencies in the rhythm of the melody. This arrangement uses the familiar rhythm of the Ave Maria version as it appeared in the 1859 edition.

It's an accurate piano transcription of the whole piece which is not too hard to play, and sounds fantastic!

"Air on the G String" is one of the most famous classical compositions.
It was written by J. S. Bach (1685-1750) as the second movement of his orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major (BWV 1068).

While the piece was just titled "Air" in Bach's original composition, the German violinist August Wilhelmj wrote a new arrangement of the piece in the 19th century. In this version, the first violin was transposed so that it only had to use the G string (the lowest string on a violin).
Since his arrangement contributed in a major way to the piece's fame and popularity, it became known as "Air on the G String" or "Air on a G String".

In any way, it is certainly one of the most beautiful pieces from the Baroque era, and sounds wonderful when played on a piano, too!

This is a new transcription for piano of the third movement (Largo e spiccato) of J.S. Bach's Concerto in D minor, BWV 596. Bach's original organ concerto was itself a transcription of Vivaldi's Concerto in D minor for two violins and obbligato violoncello (RV 565, Op.3 No. 11). It has been arranged to bring out the best qualities of this hauntingly beautiful melody.

Arrangement that combines a hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" with Bach's Cello Suite No.1 "Prelude"

Johann Sebastian Bach, Bist du bei Mir, BWV 508, arrangment / transcription for piano solo by Jaap Eilander .

The sheet includes both the original Prelude n.5 BWV 855a in E minor from Bach and the arrangement of this piece by Siloti, Prelude in B minor, as interpreted by Emil Gilels.

Alexander Siloti dedicated this piece to his daughter Kyrienna Siloti. According to her, Alexander Siloti used to play the same melody twice. The first pass emphasized the 16th notes while the second pass gave more focus to the middle voice.

This piece has been interpreted differently by many pianists over the years and in the score of the Prelude in B minor I try to capture precisely Emil Gilels\' own rendition of the piece as he introduced subtle differences in the voicing compared to Siloti\'s original score.
