Although this was written on a 7-string, it also translates very well on a 6-string; there are only 2 passages that require the low Bb string, and these will sound fine taken up an octave. If you want to try this on a standard violin, well... good luck with the 5-note chords!I realize we extended-range violinists are few & far between, but if you (like me) appreciate the unique ability of this instrument to cover bass substitutions, chord melodies, and other roles that were previously thought exclusive to fretted/keyed instruments, this arrangement is an excellent demonstration of some of the really cool ways that you can bring a melody to life without the need for any effects or accompaniment. It is not for the faint of heart, and will definitely take some practicing, but if you can tackle the harmony this is a chart that is guaranteed to impress any jazz-nerd in the room... or your money back!*A challenging, yet elegant take on one of my favorite jazz ballads, this arrangement is great for showing off your jazz chops as a soloist, but can also work great as background music at one of those weddings or cocktail parties where someone decided it would be a hip idea to have an electric violinist... by themself...without any suggestions on repertoire (don't lie, we've all done at least one of these). Frets are optional, but not necessary ;-) I've been playing this for 6 years without... Caprices for solo violin have a long tradition; the list of collections in which virtuoso violinist-composers archived testimonies of their virtuoso violin art ranges from Locatelli to Paganini, from Gaviniès to Dont. Among them is the French violinist Pierre Rode (1774-1839) who added his 24 Capricen in Form einer Etüde für Violine allein to this genre. Even today, they still form part of the indispensable repertoire of violin students, particularly since, notwithstanding the purely technical side, they are also attractive pieces of music. As a teacher at the famous Paris Conservatoire, Rode, together with Pierre Baillot and Rodolphe Kreutzer, laid the foundations for comprehensive violin didactics and methodology: the 24 Caprices are important contributions to this music-educational work. The present new edition is based on the first edition of Paris of 1820, providing the original score, especially two variants of fingering, a 'normal version', and a version specifically designed for small hands. Technical as well as musical challenges make Rode's Caprices a fascinating study and performance object.

Doing my part to increase the available repertoire for extended range violins out here on the internet!I originally recorded this tune on a 7-string electric violin with a Boss RC-30 loop station. That being said, there are plenty of other gear configurations that will work. Any phrase looper/sampler that is capable of playing 2 separate tracks or sections with overdubs will be able to handle this structure, such as the Singular Sound Aeros, Boomerang III, Ableton Live with a MIDI controller, etc. If you don't play 7-string, a 5-string can also play this chart as written if you use an octave pedal to record the low bass lines. A standard 4-string can also work, although some phrases will have to be transposed 8va.A little about this tune: the head melody is a basic lydian dominant motif that gets displaced forwards or backwards by a sixteenth note on each iteration. In Nashville Number System, we call this sort of syncopation a push, which inspired the title. This idea transitions into a B solo section with a latin songo groove. This is a great tune for practicing tight rhythmic syncopation, or for developing solo ideas on modal scales!With The Khromatiks this piece was performed as a duo with violin & drums/percussion, but also works as a violin solo. If you have a looper capable of syncing to a click track, you could also try adding bass (plays the bottom line of loop 2 only) or guitar/keyboards (read the chord symbols as a lead-sheet). The ambient intro in 5/8 involves a quartal ostinato with long sweeping volume swells, which then develops into a pizzicato groove in 7/8. This groove forms the basis for the majority of the tune, as melodies & improvised solos drift in and out over an A and B section loop. On the final B section, the loop drops out and the violinist builds up into a more distorted strum bowing groove (which accompanies a drum solo on the original recording). As the intensity builds, the 7/8 groove is shortened back into 5/8, thus completing the Haiku. The piece ends with a restatement of the original ostinato as it fades into silence using an automated volume fade on the looper pedal.With The Khromatiks this piece was performed as a duo with violin & drums/percussion, but also works as a violin solo. If you have a looper capable of syncing to a click track, you could also try adding bass or guitar/keyboards (players can read the chord symbols on the chart as a lead-sheet). ISBN 9790203710714.Sonate B-dur: Es gibt nur wenige Werke fur Solovioline aus der Mozart-Zeit; das macht diese Erstveroffentlichung interessant. Die grosse Zeit der Violinvirtuosen Walther, Biber, Westhoff, Pisendel und anderer hatte mit Johann Sebastin Bachs Solosonaten und -partiten einen Abschluss gefunden. Aus der vorklassischen Periode kennen wir ausser vielen Unterrichtswerken fur Violine nur wenige konzertante Kompositionen fur eine Violine allein. Dazu zahlen insbesondere die Sonaten von Friedrich Wilhelm Rust und Johann Friedrich Reichardt, beide aus dem Umkreis Franz Bendas, die aber deutlich an barocke Vorbilder anknupfen. - Die hier vorgelegte Sonate in B-Dur von Pesch ist ein in beiden Satzen fast durchgangig zweistimmiges Stuck. Die Tonart B-Dur mag zunachst etwas befremden, ist aber nicht ungewohnlich, denn auch Solowerke von Westhoff und Rust stehen in dieser Tonart; sie erweist sich als durchaus geigerisch und klangvoll in diesem ungewohnlichen Werk. Die in vielen Veroffentlichungen wiedergegebenen Lebensdaten von Pesch, die aus unbekannter Quelle stammen und immer wieder benutzt wurden, sind durchweg falsch. Aus der Eintragung im Kirchenbuch der Gemeinde St. Blasius in Braunschweig ist der 27. Februar 1791 als Sterbedatum eindeutig festgestellt. Die Braunschweigische Anzeigen schreiben Am 27sten Februar ... verstarb ... Herr Carl August Pesch im 57ten Jahr seines Alters. Im 57ten Jahr bedeutet, dass er 56 Jahre alt wurde, also 1735 geboren ist. Uber seine Herkunft ist bisher wenig bekannt: Nach 1760: Eintritt in den herzoglichen Dienst in Braunschweig; 1763: Leopold Mozart erwahnt Pesch unter den Personen, die er im Gasthof Goldener Lowe in Frankfurt/Main getroffen hat; 1765: Reise mit dem Herzog nach London, dort Veroffentlichung einiger Werke; 1766/1767: Reise mit dem Herzog nach Italien; 1776 Konzerte in Frankfurt/Main.
