String Quartet String Quartet - Level 5 - SKU: A0.933785 Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Jonathan Hall. Concert,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 19 pages. Jonathan Hall Press #3389453. Published by Jonathan Hall Press (A0.933785). A Brahms Intermezzo arranged for string quartet (from Six Piano Pieces, Op. 118). Gentle and lyrical, this piece is sure to captivate audiences. A high degree of skill from all four players is required to sound fluid and easy in spite of difficult double stops, string crossings, and passing of lines between instruments. [I apologize that the sound file is just the computer playing, and not very well. I hope to put up a sample of a real quartet soon.] Key: D major (originally A major); Duration: 5:10

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1416898 Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Romantic Period. 17 pages. Jmsgu3 #998489. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1416898). The Fugue in A-flat minor, WoO 8, is one of the early organ works by Brahms, composed around 1856-57. It is an intense, brooding fugue published without an opus number. The fugue is part of a small set of four early organ pieces by Brahms, including the chorale prelude and fugue O Traurigkeit, o Herzeleid (WoO 7). These early organ works demonstrate Brahms' mastery of counterpoint at a young age. While Brahms did not have a close personal relationship with the organ, the genre of the chorale prelude allowed him to pay homage to his musical heritage, following the conventions of the form by paraphrasing and elaborating on pre-existing Lutheran chorale melodies. The Fugue in A-flat minor is considered one of the most significant and high-quality of Brahms' early organ works. It was eventually assigned the posthumous opus number 122, which is still known today. So, in summary, the Fugue in A-flat minor is an essential early organ work by Brahms that demonstrates his mastery of counterpoint, even though the organ was not his primary instrument. It is considered a significant and high-quality piece within Brahms' overall organ output.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1167738 Composed by Johannes Brahms (1833 – 1897). Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Romantic Period,Wedding. 38 pages. Jmsgu3 #768067. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1167738). The 14 Deutsche Volkslieder WoO 34 is a collection of 14 German folk songs harmonized by Brahms. These songs, composed between 1858 and 1868 and published in two volumes in 1869 and 1877, include secular and sacred pieces. Dedicated to the Vienna Singacademie, they are considered significant as they showcase Brahms' skill in arranging and harmonizing folk melodies. The pieces draw on traditional German folk songs from various regions and periods. The collection includes a variety of styles and topics, from love songs to religious hymns and from drinking songs to dance tunes. The group is a testament to Brahms' interest in folk music and his contribution to preserving and popularizing German folk songs. Brahms' contemporaries reacted positively to his 14 Deutsche Volkslieder WoO 34. Brahms' skill in arranging and harmonizing folk melodies was highly regarded by his contemporaries, and the enduring appeal of these songs is evident in their arrangements for various ensembles, such as mixed choir and wind band. These songs help to preserve and popularize German folk music, reflecting Brahms' dedication to this musical tradition. The pieces are generally lighthearted and lyrical, often performed in concerts and recordings as part of the German choral tradition.Contents:1. Von edler Art2. Mit Lust tät ich ausreiten3. String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1081984 Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Richard E Brown. Contest,Festival,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 12 pages. Dacker Music #686118. Published by Dacker Music (A0.1081984). The Waltz in Ab, Op. 39, No. 15 is one of the best-known piano pieces by the great German Romantic composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897). Although just one in a set of 16 short waltzes for piano that Brahms penned in 1865, it has long taken on a life of its own, eclipsing all of the others in popularity. The set was originally written for piano 4-hands, where this waltz was in the key of A. When Brahms arranged it for solo piano later that same year, he lowered it a semitone to Ab. This arrangement restores the original key. Level: M - Duration 1:45.

Soprano voice and string quartet - advanced - SKU: S9.Q48897 Six Lieder by Theodor Kirchner. Composed by Aribert Reimann. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, score and parts. Duration 23 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q48897. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q48897). German.Theodor Kirchner (1823-1903) began composing at a very early age, initially receiving great support from Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann and subsequently from Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms. Even his Lieder op. 1 already display a clear formal structure, the concentration of tonal material within a limited space and rhythmic variability. I have selected six lieder based on poems by Heinrich Heine originating from different periods of Kirchner’s life and interleaved them between seven bagatelles which make selective references to the previous or next lied, sometimes as a single note, a chord or a gesture. The Sieben Bagatellen can additionally be performed separately, independently of the complete cycle. (Aribert Reimann).

String Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Violin - SKU: A0.1049310 By Richard Byrnes. By Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Richard Byrnes. Romantic Period. 92 pages. Richard Byrnes #653680. Published by Richard Byrnes (A0.1049310). Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German composer who crafted his works using the techniques of musical counterpoint within traditional forms. Within those strictures he created many beautiful and powerful works. Barely 20 years old, Brahms wrote this in 1853. It is the second of five movements. Being his last piano sonata, it is his biggest solo piano work. This movement begins with a quotation from a poem by Otto Inkermann: Through evening's shade, the pale moon gleamsWhile rapt in love's ecstatic dreamsTwo hearts are fondly beating. This is an arrangement by Richard Byrnes for 8 Violins, 4 Celli, 2 Basses. In addition to works by Brahms, we offer works by J.S. Bach, Debussy, Fauré, Glinka, Gottschalk, Granados, Griffes, Lotti, Mozart, Ravel, Richard Strauss, and Turina.

Piano,Violin - Level 3 - SKU: A0.836715 Composed by Brian Joyce. 20th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. 44 pages. Brian Joyce #4887927. Published by Brian Joyce (A0.836715). A Violin Sonata written in 2019, but which sounds more like 1869? There’s a reason for that: apart from the obvious and enjoyable challenge of writing an extended faux-19th century piece, the sonata is dedicated to the memory of my mother who - being a Brahms & Tchaikovsky gal through and through - had little use for music written after 1900. For instance, I remember when I was a lad and my father and I would listen to Stravinsky’s Le Sacre, Mom would always go out for a walk until it blew over. The Sonata has four movements: I. Largo-Moderato (7:10), II. Allegretto (5:00), III. Andante (7:00), IV. Bagatelles. Allegro non troppo (6:00). Total performance time is about 25 to 26 minutes. The audio file accompanying this description gives you a couple of minutes of each movement: most of the exposition of I; the end of the Scherzo and beginning of the Trio (with its curious three-measure phrases) of II; the closing measures of III; and the beginning of IV. (The sonata has been read by professional players and is guaranteed to work, but at this writing it has not been performed or recorded. Therefore the audio file is only a computer playback. Living musicians will be able to make far more sense of it.)

Piano,Violin - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1446731 By Friedrich Fritz Kreisler (February 2, 1875 – January 29, 1962). By Fritz Kreisler. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Classical,Historic,Instructional,Multicultural,Romantic Period,World. 13 pages. Keith Terrett #1026497. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1446731). Liebesleid for Solo Violin and Pianoforte.Kreisler wrote a number of pieces for the violin, including solos for encores, such as Liebesleid and Liebesfreud. Some of Kreisler's compositions were pastiches ostensibly in the style of other composers. They were originally ascribed to earlier composers, such as Gaetano Pugnani, Giuseppe Tartini and Antonio Vivaldi, and then, in 1935, Kreisler revealed that it was he who wrote the pieces. When critics complained, Kreisler replied that they had already deemed the compositions worthy: The name changes, the value remains, he said. He also wrote operettas, including Apple Blossoms in 1919[8] and Sissy [de] in 1932, a string quartet, and cadenzas, including ones for Brahms's Violin Concerto, Paganini's D major Violin Concerto, and Beethoven's Violin Concerto. His cadenzas for the Beethoven concerto are the ones most often played by violinists today. He wrote the music for the 1936 movie The King Steps Out directed by Josef von Sternberg, based on the early years of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.Kreisler performed and recorded his own version of the first movement of Paganini's D major Violin Concerto. The movement is rescored and in some places reharmonised, and the orchestral introduction is completely rewritten in some places. The overall effect is of a late-nineteenth-century work. The mausoleum of Kreisler in Woodlawn Cemetery.Kreisler owned several antique violins made by luthiers Antonio Stradivari, Pietro Guarneri, Giuseppe Guarneri, and Carlo Bergonzi, most of which eventually came to bear his name. He also owned a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin of 1860, which he often used as his second violin, and which he often loaned to the young prodigy Josef Hassid. In 1952 he donated his Giuseppe Guarneri to the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. where it remains in use for performances given in the library. On recordings, Kreisler's style resembles that of his younger contemporary Mischa Elman, with a tendency toward expansive tempi, a continuous and varied vibrato, expressive phrasing, and a melodic approach to passage-work. Kreisler makes considerable use of portamento and rubato. The two violinists' approaches are less similar in big works of the standard repertoire, such as Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, than in smaller pieces.A trip to a Kreisler concert is recounted in Siegfried Sassoon's 1928 autobiographical novel Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man.The Australian manufacturer of electronics and consumer goods Kriesler (later a subsidiary of Philips) supposedly took its name after Fritz Kreisler but had intentionally misspelled the name as to avoid possible juristical actions from other parties.

Piano,Violin - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1446732 By Friedrich Fritz Kreisler (February 2, 1875 – January 29, 1962). By Fritz Kreisler. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Multicultural,Romantic Period,World. 19 pages. Keith Terrett #1026498. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1446732). Liebesfreud for Solo Violin & Pianoforte.Kreisler wrote a number of pieces for the violin, including solos for encores, such as Liebesleid and Liebesfreud.

Piano,Violin - Level 1 - SKU: A0.548703 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Easter,Standards. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411155. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548703). A Violin Christmas/Easter classic! Duration: 4:55 Score: 3 pg. Violin part: 1 pg. Piano reads from the score. Schubert seems to have composed this piece as a song-setting. This is because he wanted to portray a poignant emotional event from a poem. The poem was Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake. Consequently, this song became an integral part of Schubert's Song cycle. Therefore the cycle is called: the Lady of the Lake. In the poem, Ellen Douglas is the Lady of the Lake. The lake is probably Loch Katrine in the Scottish Highlands. First of all, Ellen goes with her father to stay in the Goblin's cave. They go because he earlier refused to join in a rebellion against King James. Roderick Dhu, the chief of the rebellious Alpine Clan, marches up the mountain with his army. But before the battle, he, first of all, hears Ellen singing. She is singing a prayer calling for help from the Virgin Mary. Schubert's piece was first performed at the castle of Countess Sophie Weissenwolff in Steyregg, Austria.  Schubert dedicated the arrangement to her, and as a result, she became famous as the lady of the lake. The incipit of Ellen's song is Ave Maria which is Latin for Hail Mary. It seems like this similarity led Schubert to adapt the melody to accommodate the Roman Catholic prayer Ave Maria. Consequently, the Latin version of Ave Maria finally became more famous than the original so that consequently many believe he wrote the Latin version first. Schubert Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was, in fact, a famous Austrian composer. Moreover, he composed during the late Classical and early Romantic periods. Schubert was comparatively prolific. He wrote more than 600 secular vocal works, seven symphonies, and, correspondingly, a massive amount of piano and chamber music. Critics agree, as a matter of fact, that his most famous works include his Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 (also known as the Trout Quintet), the Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony), the last sonatas for piano (D. 958–960), and the song cycles Die schöne Müllerin (D. 795) and Winterreise (D. 911). Education Schubert was furthermore a musical child prodigy. He studied violin with his father as well as piano with his older brother. In addition, when Schubert was eleven he studied at Stadtkonvikt school, where he became familiar with the orchestral music of Haydn, Mozart, and likewise Beethoven. In due time he left school and returned home where he studied to become an educator; nevertheless, he continued studying composition with Antonio Salieri. Performance Eventually, Schubert was admitted to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde as a performer. This appointment straightaway established his name in Vienna as a composer and pianist. Finally, he gave his only composition recital in 1828. He died suddenly a few months later probably due to typhoid fever. Legacy Schubert’s music was by and large underappreciated while he was alive. There were all in all only a few enthusiasts in Vienna. After he died, however, interest in his work in fact increased. Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms and other famous composers in due time discovered his compositions. Nowadays, historians rank Schubert expressly among the greatest composers of the era, and his music remains in general very popular. Â

It was well received by my teachers and peers so I thought why not share it!The duration of this piece is about 4:30 minutes. The piece was written using certain methods of Brahms and the general Romantic period. There isn't really a certain place to play this other than just concert repertoire. Note: there isn't a second violin or bass part, I'd be up for writing them so just email me a request for them!!
