String quartet - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7119 As Ludwig van Beethoven could (possibly) have composed it. Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang Birtel. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 13 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q7119. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7119). What do Beethoven and the children's song Fuchs Du hast die Gans gestohlen have in common? Nothing, strictly speaking. Although the song was written as early as 1824 (and theoretically, Beethoven could have known it), it has not left deep marks on his oeuvre. But what if he had known it? Wolfgang Birtel pursued this question and, in reply to it, conceived a symphony for string quartet: behind each movement is an original symphony by Beethoven (spiced with quotes from other works). The children's song appears as the main theme in the final movement of Symphony No. 1, in the famous funeral march of Eroica, fate knocks at the door (of the goose house) in remembrance of Symphony No. 5, and the work ends with Ode to the Roast Goose (Symphony No. 9). A funny and cleverly arranged collage, a performing and listening pleasure in the footsteps of Beethoven.

String Ensemble,String Quintet Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813840 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Contemporary,Folk,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 18 pages. Regis Bookshar #6533951. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813840). Largo (from Symphony No. 9 in E minor) (From the New World) (Db) (Violin Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of the Largo, based on the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services, especially Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (18 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (subtitled From the New World and popularly know as the New World Symphony), was composed by Antonin Dvorak in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 16, 1893 and has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. The second movement of the symphony, upon which this arrangement is based, is marked Largo, and begins with a harmonic progression of chords which is then followed by a solo instrument playing the famous main theme.Dvorak was interested in Native American music and the African-American spirituals he heard in North America. While director of the National Conservatory he encountered an African-American student, Harry T. Burleigh, who sang traditional spirituals to him. Burleigh, later a composer himself, said that Dvorak had absorbed their spirit before writing his own melodies. Dvorak stated:    I am convinced that the future music of this country must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them.He further explained how Native American music influenced his symphony:  I have not actually used any of these (Native American) melodies. I have simply written original themes embodying the peculiarities of the Indian music, and, using these themes as subjects, have developed them with all the resources of modern rhythms, counterpoint, and orchestral colour. In 1893, a newspaper interview quoted Dvorak as saying, I found that the music of the negroes and of the Indians was practically identical, and that the music of the two races bore a remarkable similarity to the music of Scotland. Most historians agree that Dvorak is referring to the pentatonic scale, which is typical of each of these musical traditions.Dvorak was influenced not only by music he heard, but also by what he had seen, in America. He wrote that he would not have composed his American pieces as he had if he had not seen America. It has been said that Dvorak was inspired by the wide open spaces of America, such as the prairies he may have seen on his trip to Iowa in the summer of 1893. Notices about several performances of the symphony include the phrase wide open spaces about what inspired the symphony and/or about the feelings it conveys to listeners. The theme from the Largo was adapted into the spiritual Goin' Home (often mistakenly considered a folk song or traditional spiritual) by Dvorak's pupil, William Arms Fisher, who wrote the lyrics in 1922. Regis Bookshar thought it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to this version for a Violin Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection which are readily available for a wide variety of instrumental en.

Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1285513 Composed by Arcangelo Corelli. Arranged by Kamada, Mikio. Baroque. 6 pages. ACORDO Sheet Music #876618. Published by ACORDO Sheet Music (A0.1285513). Corelli's Op. 5 consists of 12 sonatas for violin and basso continuo. Sonata, Op.5, No.10 has five movements: I. Preludio, II. Allemanda, III. Sarabanda, IV. Gavotta, V. Giga. The fourth movement (IV) is especially well-known.Basso continuo is usually played by harpsichord and cello. However, Lumiere Duo has released a beautiful CD recording of Op. 5, No. 7, performed as a duet for violin and cello. The sheet music we're sharing here is arranged for duets of Op. 5, No. 10, for violin and viola.Viola is tuned one octave above the cello. As a result, the viola can't faithfully replicate the cello part from the original. There are notes that are too low for the viola's range. In the arrangement for violin and viola, we strive to stay true to the original notes. If the notes aren't in the viola's range, we raise them by one octave. However, following this rule too strictly can lead to unnatural sequences. In such cases, even when the note is within the viola's range, we use a note one octave higher to maintain naturalness. While there's no rigid rule for this treatment, we're trying to imagine what Corelli might do if he were arranging for violin and viola. Additionally, in the third and fourth movements, we've swapped the solo part and basso continuo part in the repeating sections. Shifting the melody to the viola brings a fresh sound. In the audio samples below, we've used a flute sound for the violin part and a clarinet sound for the viola part. This should help you better understand how the swapping works.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1048737 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Yoon Jae Lee. Classical,Romantic Period,Standards,Traditional,Wedding. 10 pages. Ondine Press #652362. Published by Ondine Press (A0.1048737). This is a full score Yoon Jae Lee's arrangement of the wedding march for string quartet. The set of parts is available separately. Mendelssohn’s wedding march is a ubiquitous piece for any seasoned wedding musician. A quick search online reveals that there are more than a few dozen arrangements of this work for string quartet alone! So why create another one? Many of the arrangements currently in circulation are of extremely poor quality, both from a musical and publishing standpoint. Too often they give little regard to what Mendelssohn actually wrote and are rendered as if the arranger was recalling the music by ear. My new arrangement was created with a fresh examination of the original orchestral score. Here are some key highlights: 1. It preserves the structural integrity of the music (i.e. same exact number of bars as the original) 2. Maintains a balance between the original context and rewriting the music idiomatically for string quartet. 3. Aims to be of high artistically yet playable by most string players above an intermediate level (There are double stops and a few triple stops but nothing unmanageable). 4. No unnecessary articulations, bowings or fingerings have been added. The basic spirit of the music is left untouched and skilled musicians can make their own interpretive decisions with fresh insight into the music. 5. A clean, high quality engraving with bar numbers added. An abridged arrangement of the first 29 bars of march is also available so don’t use a cheap, free arrangement online of this important work. If you are a “serious†musician, be sure to have this arrangement of the wedding march always handy in your library! Perusal Score: https://issuu.com/ondinepress/docs/mendelssohn_wedding_march_full.

Serenade No. 11
Quatuor à cordes: 2 violons, alto, violoncelle
String Quintet Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1447120 Comp…
(+)
String Quintet Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1447120 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Stephen Levintow. Classical. 69 pages. Cypress Publishing #1026899. Published by Cypress Publishing (A0.1447120). Soon after moving to Vienna in 1781, Mozart wrote what turned out to be his last, and finest, three serenades for wind ensemble. He himself arranged the one in c minor, Köchel 388, for string quintet (2 violins, 2 violas and cello), and that version is known as K. 406. Most of the serenade in B-Flat Major, K 361, sometimes called Gran Partita or Serenade for 13 Instruments, was also arranged for the same quintet combination, apparently by someone else, with the movements divided up between Quintets No. 6 and 7 in the second volume of the standard Peters Edition set of parts for Mozart’s string quintets. The remaining serenade, K. 375, is appearing in a string quintet arrangement for the first time that I know of. While it does not have the dramatic intensity of K. 388/406 or the grand sweep of K. 361, it is a worthy companion to the other two works. He composed it “carefully”, as he explained in a letter to his father, and the piece is full of striking details that show this. In the first movement, the second subject is surprisingly in a dark minor key, and the development is based on it. But it does not appear in the recapitulation, replaced instead by a new major key theme. The first of the two minuets also has a brooding trio in minor. The heart of the work is the Adagio, one of Mozart’s great slow movements, and it should be better known. The long-spun overlapping melodies work particularly well for strings. The finale starts as a conventional Rondo, but breaks off into an extended fugal section (again starting in a minor key!) that gives the movement weight and power beyond a typical formula rondo. This arrangement transposes the original E-Flat Major to D Major, to take advantage of string sonority while making some of the passage work lie better for the instruments. Score and parts follow the current convention of listing the composer’s middle name as Amadeus, even though he did not favor it: His only recorded use was a letter he signed Wolfgangus Amadeus Mozartus, clearly intended as a joke. He preferred the Italian or French versions, Amadeo or Amadé, of his German given name Gottlieb (which he also rarely if ever used). CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. He is a free lance professional violist and violinist specializing in chamber music, who began making string quartet and trio arrangements for wedding, party and corporate events, to expand the repertory or to improve on existing versions. Selections include unusual pieces by both familiar and lesser-known composers, plus standard classical and popular favorites. The goal is to produce high-quality, musically satisfying arrangements faithful to the composer’s original material, yet sight-readable in most cases by working professionals or intermediate to advanced students. The full range of normal string technique is employed, while avoiding unnecessary technical complexity. Melodic material is distributed throughout the four voices where appropriate, to maintain listener and performer interest. All parts and scores are set in Sibelius© software format, with careful attention to legibility and page turns.

String Ensemble,String Quintet Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813431 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Multicultural,Standards,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 27 pages. Regis Bookshar #6259507. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813431). Canon (Pachelbel) (Bb) (Violin Quintet) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Violin Quintet. Three Violins play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the other two Violins. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (26 pages). This version is written in the key of Bb Major, but, if you prefer, another version, written in the key of D Major, is also available. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. Also, just to let you know, the Octets written in the key of Bb Major have full-length recordings while the Octets in D Major and all Quintets have only the first 25 measures, or so, available to hear. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar which are also available. There are quite a few other arrangements in a variety of styles and I'm certain you will find something else which might interest you as well. Please keep checking because I plan to continue to add new arrangements as often as I can. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon will be a challenge to some performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Scheidt- Variations on Wehe, Windgen, wehe (Blow Little Winds, Blow) [1624, Halle] This gem of mid-Baroque German meister Sam Scheidt, who (for reference) was 23 yrs. younger than Shakespeare and 98 yrs. than Bach, sounds not-a-bit strange to today's ears. Donald J. (no, not him) Grout says that John Dowland's songs of 1590's sound entirely modern. Well, they do! STING recorded them, if that means anything to you. So then, what have composers been up to for the last 430 years?! I jest, but this piece is terrific. Be advised, the 'runs' are modal, in that the 7th degree is usually NOT just a semitone under the 8th/1st, but a whole tone. A bit like bagpipe music, in our day.

String Quartet String Quartet,Viola - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1004728 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Adrian Gagiu. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score and parts. 205 pages. Adrian Gagiu #6365523. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1004728). This composition is a premiere, speculative, yet as faithful as possible embodiment of all of Beethoven’s sketches for his String Quintet in C major, Hess 41 (WoO 62), as they have been left by the composer. The usefulness and integrity of more or less hypothetical completions of sketches by great composers remains from case to case controversial. Due to the paucity of the sketches for the aim of attempting a true reconstruction, the present composition in no way falls within such category. It is obviously quite different from what Beethoven himself would have produced if he had lived more, also due to the fact that he usually transformed his preliminary sketches substantially during the compositional process. However, there are some of his frequent, subtle thematic relationships between the sketches for the Quintet movements, and probably some features in the sketches would have been kept in the completed composition. The four-movement design hypothesized by Martin Staehelin and others, as well as other retrospective or relaxed features in the sketches may be a result of a still early stage of the compositional process, or perhaps an indicator of a fourth, neoclassical creative period, together with Op. 135 and the new Finale for Op. 130.To generate a continuity draft of the Quintet, all of Beethoven’s sketches for it were used, with the addition of several ones from the same context within the respective sketchbook and which could be related to the identified Quintet sketches: some sketches are clearly labeled as being for the Quintet, while others are thematically related or written down close to them. With the possible exception of bars 75-94 and 136-155 in movement II (which are variations on the theme) and bars 140-145 in movement IV (which fill in the blank bars in the sketch with a progression based on it), virtually every bar of this composition includes the notes from the sketches in at least one of the instruments. Some of those notes were subject to transpositions and adaptations to fit the formal design, and to editorial choices for the unclear pitches and duration in the sketches. This publication includes the score, parts and continuity draft, the latter being marked with the sources in the sketches for each passage.Total duration: 33 minutes. The mp3 audio clip is the 3rd movement. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.749754 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Stephen M. Taylor. Classical,Concert,Instructional,Wedding. Score and parts. 44 pages. SMT Music #5971157. Published by SMT Music (A0.749754). Mendelssohn was a musical genius and it's obvious when you consider he penned this astounding composition by the age of 16. He wrote the octet as a birthday gift for his friend and violin teacher Eduard Rietz who was 23 at the time. This arrangement makes it possible for a string quartet to play the 1st movement. It's not always easy to get eight accomplished string players to sit down and read through music and this might make it more accessible and practical to play. The 1st violin part is the same as it was penned by Mendelssohn. The other parts are condensed. It takes some practicing even to read the music as it's somewhat difficult. And since the parts are condensed it's difficult to manuever page turns. I'll leave that up to the players. Still, it's fun to play and can be performed if you can work out the page turns.Probably work great on an I pad for that. I'm old school so my generation does cutting and pasting as needed ! Have fun. Great for parties, background music, wedding reception and general string quartet gigs.. .
