Born in Lvov, and after a short period in the Russian army, Kandel emigrated to the USA in 1905 and quickly found work as a clarinettist in vaudeville, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and JP Sousa’s band. A brief but productive period as band-leader and recording artist followed, after which Kandel retired from performing to run a music shop.Kandel’s Hora is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. A slow Hora in triple meter is followed by a faster Freylach version of the same melody in 4. Kandel’s Hora is suitable for players at an advanced intermediate level and above.
