This anthology is aimed at intermediate to advanced flautists looking for some interesting new discoveries away from the standard repertoire. Containing works largely from the Romantic era, these are virtuoso pi�ces de r�sistance and encores, expressive character pieces, gems of salon music and elaborate arrangements of well-known melodies and themes. Many of the original compositions and arrangements were written by major instrumentalists of the 19th century.

The level of difficulty of the 17 pieces ranges between advanced lower and beginning advanced levels.

Jean-Louis Tulou, a pupil of Johann Georg Wunderlich, was one of the leading flautists of his time: he was principal flautist at the opera and a professor at the Conservatoire. His pupils included legendary flautists such as Henri Altes, Jules Demersseman and Eugene Walckiers. He composed over 130 flute pieces and wrote a flute tutorial method. He forbade his students to play the newly constructed flute designed by Theobald Bohm and even made a few adaptations to the traditional flute himself. Only after his retirement in 1856 could the Bohm flute that is familiar today come in to use under his successor Dorus. This Air varie brillant op. 98 was published in collaboration by Brandus &. Cie, Paris and Schott, Mainz. An alternative setting of the accompaniment for chamber ensemble (two violins, viola, cello, double bass, two oboes, two horns and two bassoons) is only listed by Brandus. .

The compositions, arrangements and studies by Wilhelm Popp (1828-1902) are particularly popular amongst flautists today. Popp wrote more than 600 pieces at different levels of difficulty.
His brilliant salon music can be easily played by intermediate flautists .and .to great effect.

Emil Kronke (1865-1938), a composer of the German late Romantic era, has unjustly fallen into oblivion until today. As a pianist and piano teacher, he primarily composed works for his principal instrument. In addition, he wrote several works for flute which look back on a rich tradition in Dresden, his adopted home town and sphere of activity for many years. Apart from virtuoso salon music, he also composed easier pieces like Kolibris Op. 201 from 1931.
The six appealing miniatures with easy piano accompaniment are little didactic pieces which can be used even by young flutists of today to develop their technique and their style. Furthermore, they sound so beautiful as to certainly bring a good mood into the classroom, yet are also suitable for pupils' concerts and competitions. May the Kolibris continue to fly in the following generations and be played by young musicians with joy and imagination.

Finally, the music of Charles Koechlin is no longer an insider tip, but is being discovered for both the concert hall and the CD! With our edition we are now presenting a largely unknown facet of his work. Because hardly anyone knows that Koechlin turned to film at an advanced age. Although Koechlin was aware that there was no prospect of a cinematic implementation, he even designed a film scenario in 20 scenes in which he himself should appear in a double role! At the age of 66 he saw the actress Lilian Harvey as Princess Marie-Christine in Princesse a vos ordres in a Parisian movie theater . He was so enchanted that he made the little pieces Le Portrait de Daisy Hamilton for her composed - captivating miniatures that were not written as film music, but drawn from film experiences.

Three volumes of the unfinished compositions Le Portrait de Daisy Hamilton , notated on two to four lines, have already been published by Schott, now we are publishing two volumes of eight pieces each for flute and piano and for clarinet and piano. Two more books (11 pieces for piano and string quartet and 10 pieces for string sextet) will follow. With the total of seven planned issues, Charles Koechlin's last as yet unpublished works from the field of film will finally be accessible to posterity.
