Released in 1978 by John Moon Martin and then covered the very next year by Robert Palmer, this driving-rock spin on the traditional blues form fits perfectly as a piece just for voices. Contains alternate lyrics which could be used by a female soloist. In the hands of a skilled vocal percussionist, the propulsive rhythm of Bad Case thumps alongside the bass; thus laying the groundwork for your soloist and setting the electric tone for the entire song. Rather than mimicking the guitar licks of the original piece, the supporting vocals fill the void between phrases and then pack a true punch when finally getting to the chorus that we all know and love. At the bridge, the bass has a moment to shine on the melody before handing it off to the altos to finish the section. This is followed directly by a unique departure from the original tune - a breakdown where all but one section drops out. Over a short time, each part layers themselves back into the texture, thus building to an exciting climax where the vocal percussionist resumes the original groove along with the full support of the rest of your singers.High energy and lots of fun, this arrangement is great for your high school or college ensemble! .

The rhythm laid down by Ben's guitar part becomes almost a Doo-wop song when voiced with syllables, and the bass line compliments the upper voices by filling in the space between. The second verse has a country feel with your men in 3-part harmony. Later on, a percussion beakdown gives you the option to do group percussion, body percussion, or fill the void with the talents of your vocal percussionist. This arrangement can be learned easily in just a few rehearsals and would be fitting for a high school or college ensemble. .

It has been used in film and television programs and known to almost everyone in Britain. Skye (also known as “The Isle of Skyeâ€) is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides. With an area of about 640 square miles, the island is about sixty miles long and lies close to the Scottish mainland.  The boat in the song (“Speed bonny boatâ€) refers to a small sailing ship that in 1746 “carried the lad who was born to be king†to the Isle of Skye. The lad in question was Prince Charles Edward Stuart known affectionately as “Bonnie Prince Charlie.†The song also refers to the Battle of Culloden of April 1746, the last ever battle on British soil, fought between the British Army and the army of Bonnie Prince Charlie.  In June 1746 and disguised as a maid-servant, Charles was secretly transported from the Hebridean island of Benbecula to the more southerly Isle of Skye. This work approaches the matter of change, perhaps ironically, via minimalistic techniques and an uplifting perspective. This song is an entirely secular work in Latin. It touches on some minimalist techniques and could be integrated into secondary school music lessons as a means of discussing minimalism and also as a means to introduce students to singing in Latin while avoiding religious ties. This work is written for SATB choir (a cappella) and is approximately 4.5 minutes in duration. The choral parts are largely diatonic and should be accessible to most audiences/ensembles. The lyrics are a mother’s advice to her daughter, warning her to “learn how to pray†and to “fall on your knees before you fall in the wrong direction.†This arrangement is deliberately “choral,†preferring to honor Ms. Foster’s exquisite vocal shadings—a bend here, a fall-off there—by avoiding exact imitation. The basses provide the rhythm section of electric bass and closed hi-hat cymbal, leaving the upper three parts in gospel harmony in all but a few measures of the piece. The divisi is confined to a few chords and is not difficult. An arresting and totally unique setting that will be a favorite with any group that is comfortable singing unaccompanied.

This sermon song was inspired by the second half of the sermon Those Who Came With Jesus by Dr. Paul de Jong at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers, Florida on November 26,2023 using the text Mark 10: 1-31. I used the first groups who came with Jesus were the Pharisees testing Christ about marriage and devorce, the disciples and the children. In my sermon song Marriage and Children With God I set to the traditional Here Comes The Bride, with a Christian message as apposed to Wagner's pagan opera of origin. This one focuses on the rich man in the Gospel of Mark who, although he kept all of the commandments, lacked one thing - that he sell all he had and give it to the poor. With sorrow he departed from Christ because he had many riches. I avoided the eye of the camel referance, but ended with the line For all things are possible with God.For the music, to describe this event, I tweeked my sermon song LOOK, which has been published by Sheet Music Plus. This SATB arrangement can be used as special music by a quartet, a choir anthem or sung by a congregation with its five verses as a hymn.

This setting of the well known Christmas poem 'I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day' restores some of the language that is commonly left out of most hymnals. This setting restores some of the anguish associated with the Civil War and allows for a tension not often associated with this text. A powerful setting. The title of the original Longfellow poem is 'Christmas Bells.' Charles Appleton Longfellow was the eldest son of the famous poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Fannie Elizabeth Appleton, who lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In March of 1863, with the Civil War then in its third year, nineteen year old Charley ran away to Washington to join the Union Army. He presented himself for enlistment to the commander of Battery A of the 1st Massachusetts Artillery, who knew the boy. The officer contacted Henry who reluctantly gave his permission for the boy to enlist. Charley proved himself such an exceptional soldier that he was soon offered a commission as a Second Lieutenant of Artillery. He first saw action at the Battle of Chancellorsville. In June he was briefly invalided home following a bout of typhoid fever and malaria, rejoining his unit in August. Then in November, during the Battle of New Hope Church, Charley was shot through the left shoulder, the bullet just grazing his spine. He narrowly avoided being paralyzed. Henry received word of Charley’s wounding on December 1, and he and a younger son went immediately to Washington, where Charley was in hospital, and brought him home to Cambridge. It was while nursing his son in his slow recovery that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow composed this poem during Christmas, 1863. -Ronald PereraDuration: 4:40.
