Mr. Rumble tricks the Puddle Jumpin' children, as well as his sidekicks Fidget, a nervous rabbit who eats carrots to calm herself, and Scratch, an incomprehensibly dumb mole who believes everything he is told, especially by Mr. Rumble. In this song, with lyrics and melody by JC Yount and spritely accompaniment by Harrison Fisher and JC Yount, Mr. Rumble introduces himself as the one who gobbles up the garden of love. His theme returns several times in Puddle Jumpin', the first songbook in the series of five in The Puddle Jumpin' Songbook Collection. In the second songbook, an alphabet songbook, Mr. Rumble hides the alphabet in a junkyard and the children are tasked to find all the letters in this work, also illustrated, The Junkyard Alphabet. Mr. Rumble has a tough time deceiving the children, an endless frustration for this comical, lively character. The children always know when Mr. Rumble is coming, as the accompanying bassoon always gives him away!

The Rain in Summer is a poem that I wrote some time ago after Verlaine's Il Pleure Dans Mon Coeur, which I first studied in high school French literature classes. The Rain in Summer is a plaintive cry to a love that is feared to have been lost, a love which comes and goes as thunderstorms in the summer months. This particular piano/vocal is dedicated to Jesus and the ache one feels as the longing for the return of the savior is entertained, just as if one were enjoying a summer tea with a great love that one fears to lose at the end of a stormy summer season.

The Bells of Youth is slightly longer and more complicated than traditional rounds, yet a joyous, simple way to get beginning youth choirs more deeply involved in music and the celebration of the Easter season. A preliminary brass arrangement is in process to compliment this piano vocal.

I first conceived of this poem and melody while an undergraduate at Duke Univ, sharing it with a friend who enjoyed the jazz reggae syncopation and melody line as we sang bits of the poem together. The poem is a long popular song, and it took me some time to perfect the intro as it is today. I am very proud of this work, as I believe it is a most original P/V intro to reggae melodies as we know them today. I write this song in honor of Mary, because she is such a genuine Goddess of Creation, the majestic and pure Mother of Jesus who always interacted with others in a straightforward and genuine manner. This song is about perseverance in the face of interpersonal superficiality, and it will take me some more time and effort to differentially cut and paste the strophic nature of the music on Finale. Slow Sunday is a lovely duet and country waltz that tells the lifelong tale of a couple whose love is challenged by the rigamarole of work and other distractions from focusing on the relationship. In the first verse, the man admits he has been drawn off course by work and other busy life responsibilities, and the woman follows by confessing her concerns and desire to start a family. The third verse is a violin instrumental that symbolizes the couple's new focus once again on love and family, and, in the fourth verse, the now aged couple looks back on a successful life of love and child rearing. This duet leaves the artistic choice to the singers as to which one sings the higher part, especially given the singers' own knowledge of their voices, blend, and the prevailing artistic context. The duet lasts about seven and a half minutes, and would be a fun, satisfying singing experience for two voices in the vein of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Slow Sunday would be a lovely choice for a couple's first waltz at their wedding.
