The cycle Numbered Places startsfrom a simple idea: the piece nr. 1 would have a title that begins with theword One, the piece nr. 2 a titlethat begins with the word Two and soon up to an arbitrary number (in this case, eleven).



For everything to have more cohesion, English names of different places orregions in either USA or (mainly) UK were used.



In its own way, Numbered Placesis therefore a conceptual album - alreadyfrom the point of view of titles.



Also musically, this world of sound has cohesion: instrumental piano music,neoclassical aesthetics (a somewhat broad concept that encompasses composerssuch as Erik Satie or Ludovico Einaudi), a certain simplicity in its surface.



Let us briefly comment each of the titles:



- One WayFlight to ...: The imaginary journey starts here. Each person will completethe sentence with the destiny of their choice.

- TwopennyLoaf: This is a neighborhood (and geographically a cape) in the city ofGloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA. It is believed to have gotten itsname because it is shaped like a (bread) loaf that at the time cost twopennies.

- ThreeBridges: It is a city somewhere between London and Brighton, and a nodalpoint where trains typically split. Musically, the most minimalistic of all thecycle.

- Four Oaks:There are numerous places so named, both in England and the US, and possibly inother countries. I can imagine that there were actually four oak trees planted near.

- FivePointz: Neighborhood in Queens, New York. A graffiti mecca that wasdemolished in 2014 to build expensive buildings. And yes, it is spelled with zin this case.

- Six MileBottom: Is a hamlet near Cambridge in England. The hamlet derives its namefrom its distance from the start of Newmarket Racecourse and because it lies ina valley bottom. There is no public transport. The old train station, closed in1967 for lack of use, is now a private residence.

- SevenKings: It is a neighborhood in Ilford, East London. The earliest recordeduse of the name is as Sevekyngg or Sevekyngges in 1285, possibly meaning'settlement of the family or followers of a man called Seofoca'

- EightStreets: it is a (very sought-after) neighborhood located in the heart ofthe historic South End of the city of Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

- Nine Elms:a district of South West London. Nine Elms Lane was named around the year 1645,from a row of elm trees bordering the road.

- Ten TenRoad: it is a place -actually the main road- in the town of Apex, NorthCarolina, USA.

- ElevenLands: this place is mentioned in an old legal report from around 1782 asexisting in North London ("a place called Eleven Lands, containing fiveacres of arable, formerly Cosby's, beonging to a farm in the said parish ofBletcheley...", in " Acollection of the Reports of Cases, the Statutes, and Ecclesiastical Laws,relating to Tithes", volume 3). It has certainly changed its name.Musically, this last piece has a certain tango aura.





Why eleven pieces and not more? The truth is that - incredibly as it mayseem - I didn't find any place called "Twelve" something. Yes thereare such names in other languages, but I wanted to keep some consistency. Thereare also pubs or bars called Twelvewhatever, but since they are not sponsoring my music, I had no motivation togive them free advertising at the moment.

"Life Gone By" is an easy piano piece which is suitable for those at beginner to early intermediate level.
It mixes a simple arpeggio based accompaniment with a beautiful, developing melody line in the right hand which not only sounds pleasant but it is easy and quick to learn.
This piece is approximately 1 minute 50 seconds long and so is a perfect length for a music interlude at an event or for a short recital in a school. Overall this piece isn't just suited to one type of event and so is flexible in that regard.
Practice Suggestions: Try learning both hands separately especially the left hand which has the ongoing anchoring feature in this piece (the arpeggios). Then try hands together listening to the recording for the rhythms (particularly the dotted quaver - dotted quaver one which is probably the most challenging rhythm in this piece).

I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the celebrated pianist Nicolas Horvath for enthusiastically
bringing my Debussy works to public attention in their solo piano formats, both through his recent
recitals across France and through this Naxos Grand Piano release (GP822). In some cases these are
true piano pieces (like Toomai des �l�phants), in others they are piano reductions of orchestral scores
(like F�tes galantes), while in others they are piano solos in their own right that also exist in orchestral
versions (as in the incidental music for Le Roi Lear). Needless to say, most of these tracks are world
premi�re recordings, and this is certainly true of A Night in the House of Usher and its companion piece Un Jour affreux avec Le Diable dans le beffroi (?A Dreadful Day with the Devil in the Belfry?) which I arranged specially for Nicolas in November 2018 as a virtuosic, almost Lisztian paraphrase-fantasy. To remind us of the plot as the dramatic scenes unfold, Un Jour affreux avec le Diable dans le beffroi, like the start of No-ja-li) has a narrator (spoken in French by Florient Azoulay on the Grand Piano recording):

[After an overture rising from the underworld, with a polka and a citation of a chldren?s folksong Savez vous plantez les choux?, a carillon rings out]: Hearing it, the Dutch villagers start to count, with the bells of the belfry / 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 8, 9, 11, and 12 / Perfect! / 13!?!/ The bell rang 13 times / 13! / The Devil is here where the clock should be! / Damn! / The bells are cracked. / The Devil laughs fit to burst / He pulls from the pocket of his coat, a small dancing master?s violin / ?My God!? says the devil ? and he tunes his violin slowly / The Devil leads the villagers in a fantastic and relentless jig [making jokes at the expense of concertos by Beethoven, Brahms and Tchaikovsky] / The Devil directs the villagers towards the canal ? where he jumps to the other side, laughing all the time / The villagers try to imitate him, but they fall into the water. / [In Part 2] the villagers are transported to a hedonistic and lively Italian village. You can "use" this music formeditation, study, learning, sleeping, relax or praying.

The phrase wherethe title (Solitude is Oneself)comes from belongs to Javier Ad�riz (1948-2011), Argentine poet, one ofmy best teachers and friends (the original Spanish reads "La soledad es uno mismo").

Don'tsee any negative aspects in Solitude. In Spanish there is only one word forSolitude and Loneliness (namely "Soledad"). Loneliness is a state ofisolation, without dialog, feeling abandoned and without external points ofreference. But I conceive Solitude as a highely creative state, in which one isfaced to what one actually wants to achieve, with one's thoughts, with one'sself.

NeverUnderestimate the Difficulties of Simple Things. Lots of times I have seenthis in several persons - and in myself: when something is simple, easy anduncomplicated, we tend to underestimate it too much and its hidden difficultiesend up tackling us. We leave to the last moment a text that seems easy tolearn, and we do not assimilate it as we could. Or a chess game that is(really) won, but we feel over-confident, we play with superficiality, we makeslight mistakes one after the other and loose control of the situation.

Thistitle can be understood as self-referent: this particular piano piece seems tobe simple... until you try to perform it really well and record it.

It shows a human face (concretely the composer's)faced simmetrically to its silhouette, in black. This illustration alludes tothe title: Solitude is Oneself. Is oneself (the person) facing his ownsolitude, his internal misterious being. A real human facing his own shadow. Itis not a negative shadow: is the shadow of which Shamanism speaks, the ownshadow from where one draws strength.

The Adagietto from Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5 makes for a wonderful piano arrangement!

This is an accurate piano transcription of the full piece, created with great passion and attention to detail.

Please note: Although the "Adagietto" is a very slow piece, there are quite challenging parts in this arrangement, so it can only be recommended to experienced piano players.

The Adagietto is the fourth movement from Gustav Mahler's fifth Symphony, which he composed in the years 1901 and 1902.
Considered an expression of his love for his wife Alma, the Adagietto became arguably his most famous composition, and is frequently performed by the world's greatest orchestras.

Leonard Bernstein famously conducted the Adagietto at Robert F. Kennedy's funeral.
It also became a common theme for the remembrance of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Played by only the orchestra's string section and a solo harp, the Adagietto is certainly one of the most beautiful compositions ever written, and it makes for a magnificent piano piece!

For the Easy Concert Pieces series, the experienced piano teacher Monika Twelsiek compiled pleasant, easy piano pieces for beginners and published them in three volumes in progressive order.

The three volumes are intended to complement a piano tutorial method and are particularly suitable for performance at auditions at music schools, for examinations and for competitions. It's a beautiful piano version based on the famous recording on the "Home Alone" soundtrack (arranged by film music legend John Williams).

The full melody is included in the piano part, so it makes for a perfect instrumental (piano solo) cover.

"Carol of the Bells" is a composition by Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych (1877-1921), who wrote many choral arrangements of traditional folk music.
This piece, too, is based on an Ukranian folk song: "Shchedryk" (Щедрик) is originally a New Year's song, known in English as "The Little Swallow".

It 1921, the song was performed by the Ukranian National Chorus at the sold-out Carnegie Hall in New York City!

In 1936, American composer Peter J. Wilhousky added English lyrics to the song and rearranged the melody for orchestra. Together with the NBC Symphony Orchestra, he is largely responsible for the song's popularity today.

John Williams famously arranged the song for the soundtrack of the 1990 film "Home Alone".
Other famous cover versions were recorded by Richard Carpenter, The Piano Guys, Pentatonix, and Lindsey Stirling.

Today, "Carol of the Bells" is one of the most popular Christmas carols, and it makes for a wonderful piano piece!

THE ENTERTAINER by SCOTT JOPLIN for PIANO SOLO. This is the iconic Scott Joplin RAGTIME piano solo that was made famous in the 1973 Robert Redford/Paul Newman hit film, THE STING. This is the original Scott Joplin version of the piece. This is a favorite piano piece of many and is not that difficult to learn. This new edition also contains a short biography of Scott Joplin and a short essay about ?The Entertainer.?

The Nocturne No. 20 in C-sharp minor, Op. posth., Lento con gran espressione, is a solo piano piece composed by Fr�d�ric Chopin in 1830 and published in 1870. This was also the piece played by Holocaust survivor and famed Polish pianist Władysław Szpilman (the central figure of the 2002 Roman Polanski film The Pianist) during the last live broadcast of Polish radio on September 23, 1939 when Warsaw was besieged by the German army.

This arrangement for Violin with Piano Accompaniment reflects faithfully the original for piano solo.

This solo piano piece was written in the spring of 2020 in Oxford UK, during the "lockdown" period (i.e. confinement to home) associated with the the coronavirus pandemic. It is based on an earlier piece of mine (October Tango) which I wrote for string quartet, but is rendered here more pianistic, and includes new material. The pianistic standard is intermediate, and the duration is about 4 minutes. The soulful music is catchy, romantic and passionate, and can either simply be played for fun, or be used in a variety of events, such as Weddings, Parties, Tango Dances, Encores etc.

This collection of pieces are intended for beginners as they use only the first five notes of each scale they are written in. The fingers are static so there is no displacement of the hand. The collection consists of 6 major and 6 minor pieces. There are 6 pieces in 4/4 and 6 pieces in 6/8 time signatures to bring variety to the player. These pieces also serve as sight reading exercises for advanced students. The pieces really work well for repertoire.

Over time, it became a popular jazz standard / chanson classic, and has been recorded by many other artists.

The lyrics for the English version (retitled "Beyond the Sea") were written by Jack Lawrence.
Bobby Darin's 1959 recording was a big hit, and further popularized the tune.

The song was also used in the end credits of the 2003 Disney / Pixar film "Finding Nemo", in a version by Robbie Williams.
