Small Ensemble Flute,Harp,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797295 Arranged by Darhon Rees-Rohrbacher. Celtic,Folk. Score and parts. 66 pages. Afghan Press Music for the Harp #4800694. Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797295). Welsh airs used in this publication were collected by Edward Jones (1751-1824), harper to King George IV. Jones was a prolific collector and arranger of melodies and is best remembered for his three-volume work called Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards (1784-1802). The order of the music facilitates playing 2-4 tunes in succession as a Welsh medley. All tunes were typeset to fit exactly on two facing pages to eliminate any page turns within a piece. Some melodies were transposed from their original keys to better suit the range of the flute. Tunes may be taken up the octave where desired, such as on repeated sections. The harp range needed to play all of the accompaniments in this collection exactly as written is only 26 strings (C-G). There are no lever changes within pieces in this entire collection, only lever pre-sets. Table of Contents: Cnott y Coed (The Wood-Bunch), Tros y Garreg (Over the Rock), Crisial Ground (The Crystal Ground), Blodau y’ Gorllewin (Flowers of the West), Ffarwel Dic Bibydd (Dick the Piper’s Farewell), Agoriad Cywair (The Opening of the Key),Trichant o Bunnau (Three Hundred Pounds), Y Gŵr a’i Farch (The Man and His Horse), Mopsi Dôn: yr Hên Fford (Mopsy’s Tune: The Old Way), Yr Hên Rogero Bengoch (Old Roger Red Poll), Mwynen Machno (The Enjoyment of Machno), Tlysig (The Beauty), Cymro o B’le? (A Welshman from Where?), Troiad y Droell (Turning of the Spinning Wheel), Y Tŷ Trwy’r Ffenest (The House through the Window), Cudyn Gwyn (White Lock of Hair), Blodeu Gwynedd (Flowers of Gwynedd), Hela’r Ysgyfarnog (Hunting the Hare), Blodeu’r Grùg (Blooms of the Heather), Y Derwydd (The Druid) .

High voice and piano - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q20009 Dafydd y Garreg Wen. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 2 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q20009. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20009). Welsh.According to tradition, the Bard David lived in a house called Y Garreg Wen (The White Rock) in a remote situation in North Wales. He was commonly called by his Christian name followed by the name of his house, a common custom in Wales, and one which survives to the present day.Like many other Welsh Bards, David was also a harpist, and is reputed to have had his harp continually at his side. On his death-bed, he is supposed to have asked that his harp be once more placed in his hands in order that he might play just one more tune. The melody he played was afterwards called by his name Dafydd Y Garreg Wen (David of the White Rock), and this same melody was performed on a single Welsh harp at his funeral, as was his dying wish. The Welsh words were subsequently added by Ceiriog Hughes in the nineteenth century. Words and melody are now inseparably linked, and are together widely known and regarded as one of the most popular of Welsh Traditional Songs.Richard Bowen (1963).

Welsh Folksongs for String Orchestra

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.773302 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Yoel Epstein. Celtic,Christian,Folk,Holiday. Score and parts. 41 pages. Yoel Epstein #3236529. Published by Yoel Epstein (A0.773302). If ever there was a nation with song in its heart, it is the Welsh. These five traditional Celtic folksongs are among the best known and best loved of all folk music. Ar Hyd Y Nos (All Through The Night), first published in 1784 in Edward Jones's anthology of folk songs, Musical and Poetical Relics of the Welsh Bards, became one of the most popular hymns in the English-speaking world. A popular Christmas song, All Through the Night also appears in numerous films and stage productions, beginning with John Gay's opera of 1728 and up to the present day. Calon Lân (a pure heart), a traditional Celtic tune with lyrics later written by Daniel James (Gwyrosydd) in the 1890s, has become the anthem of the Welsh Rugby league. Llwyn Onn (The Ash Grove) was first published in 1892 in The Bardic Museum by harpist Edward Jones. In its English version, with words written by poet Thomas Oliphant, it is traditionally sung in America on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Dafydd y Gareg Wen (David of the White Rock). This song was written by David Owen, a harpist who died about 1720 at the tender age of 29. Tradition says that Owen was lying on his deathbed, and called for his harp. Too weak to hold the harp, he was helped by his wife, who held the harp upright while he played this haunting tune. Rhyfelgyrch Gwyr Harlech (Men of Harlech) describes the seven-year siege of Harlech Castle between 1461 and 1468. Commanded by Constable Dafydd ap Ieuan, the Welsh garrison withstood the longest known siege in the history of the British Isles I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I enjoyed writing it. If you enjoy this, you are welcome to try some of my other arrangements. You can see them at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/yoel-epstein-sheet-music/3001988?ac=1. I have also arranged three songs from the Holocaust, which I arranged and distribute for free on IMSLP. You can find them at http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Ravpapa. If you need arrangements of any of these songs for special combinations of instruments, feel free to contact me at yoelepst@gmail.com, and I will try to accommodate.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.759588 Composed by Mark Lansom. 20th Century,Celtic,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 72 pages. Mark Lansom #5792285. Published by Mark Lansom (A0.759588). 1. Gogerddan, 2. Robin Ddiog, 3. Cadair Idris, 4. RhosymedreWelsh Folk Song Suite was written in 2011 for Wrexham Schools String Ensemble, though it is an enjoyable challenge for string groups of any age. The notes are mostly straightforward and the rhythms can be taught and learnt. The work is conveniently named, though only the inner movements could be described as a folk song. The first is taken from Edward Jones’s 1794 Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards, whilst the fourth is a famous hymn.Three of the movements share a modernist idiom without often straying from their melodic root. In the final movement ideas from the first two movements return. The slow movement, Cadair Idris, however, stands alone, with much more traditional harmonic roots, and is joined structurally by an original melody. Score and parts included.

Harp - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797294 Arranged by Darhon Rees-Rohrbacher. Celtic,Classical,Folk. Score. 35 pages. Afghan Press Music for the Harp #4800674. Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797294). Welsh airs used in this publication were collected by Edward Jones (1751-1824), harper to King George IV. Jones was born in North Wales and in about 1775 moved to London where he enjoyed a nearly 50-year career as composer, arranger, performer and teacher. This delightful collection of arrangements is a real treat and something a little bit different for your repertoire. As usual, Darhon's arrangements are wonderfully playable with enough complexity to be interesting. Each of the melodies stands alone but, as she has done with other collections, Darhon has arranged them in a progressive key order so that they can be played together en-suite. Several of the tunes would make wonderful wedding processionals and others are perfect for a prelude.Table of Contents: Hob y Deri Danno (Away to the Oaken Grove), Cwynfan Brydain (The Lamentation of Britain), Ysgin Aur (The Golden Robe), Dewis Meinwen (The Fair One’s Choice), Triban Gwŷr Morganwg (War Song of the Men of Glamorgan), Ruban Morfydd (Morvydd’s Ribband), Pen Rhaw (The Spade’s Head), Serch Hudol (The Allurement of Love), Castell Tywyn (Towyn Castle), Toriad y Dydd (The Dawn of Day), Croeso’r Wenynen (Welcome the Bee), Galon Drom (The Heavy Heart), Gil y Fwyalch (The Blackbird’s Retreat), Mwynen Môn (The Melody of Mona), Mantell Siani (Jenny’s Mantle)

An arrangement of the regional anthem of Brittanny for Brass Quintet.<br> <br> Bro Gozh ma Zadoù (Breton: Old Land of My Fathers) is the anthem of Brittany, sometimes presented as the "national anthem" although it has no official status. It is sung to the same tune as that of the national anthem of Wales, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, and has similar words. The Cornish anthem, Bro Goth Agan Tasow, is also sung to the same tune.<br> <br> The Breton lyrics are the creation of François Jaffrennou in 1897, and the music was that composed by James James, of Pontypridd, Wales, for Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. The new song was first published in 1898, and circulated as Henvelidigez ("Adaptation"). It was chosen as national anthem (and a song to celebrate friendship between the Welsh and Bretons) in 1903, at a Congress of the Union Régionaliste Bretonne held in Lesneven. Maurice Duhamel adapted it for the piano, and it was first recorded by Pathé in 1910.<br> <br> James James (also known by the bardic name Iago ap Ieuan) (1833–1902) was a harpist and musician from Pontypridd, Wales. He composed the tune of the Welsh national anthem Hen Wlad fy Nhadau (also known as Land of my Fathers).<br> <br> He was born on 4 November 1832, at the ’Ancient Druid’ inn, Hollybush, in the parish of Bedwellty, Monmouthshire. He was the son of Evan James (1809-1878) and Elizabeth Stradling of Caerphilly. His father, a Welsh versifier under the pen-name of leuan ab lago, moved with his family about 1844 to Pontypridd, where he carried on the business of weaver and wool merchant. His son James assisted him in the business.<br> <br> James James composed the melody which was later known as Hen Wlad fy Nhadau in January 1856. At first it was known as Glan Rhondda (The banks of the Rhondda), and gave rise to the tradition that the tune had come to him as he walked on the bank of the River Rhondda. His father, Evan James, wrote the lyrics that eventually became the words of the Welsh national anthem.<br> <br> A memorial to James James and his father, in the shape of two figures representing the muses of Poetry and Music, stands in Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd. James James died in Aberdare in the Cynon Valley 11 January 1902,[3] he is buried in the local cemetery at Aberdare in the same grave as his wife Cecilia and daughter Louisa.<br> <br> For more of my original music, great arrangements and all the national anthems of the world, check out my on-line stores:http://www.scoreexchange.com/profiles/keith_terrethttp://musicforalloccasions.org.ukhttp://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=keith+terrettNeed an anthem fast? Based on a song by the Welsh harpist David OwenThe pdf contains score and partsDavid the bard on his bed of death liesPale are his features and dim are his eyesYet all around him his glance wildly rovesTill it alights on the harp that he loves.Give me my harp, my companion so longLet it once more add its voice to my songThough my old fingers are palsied and weakStill my good harp for its master will speak.Often the hearts of our chiefs it has stirredWhen its loud summons to battle was heardHarp of my country, dear harp of the braveLet thy last notes hover over my grave.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.751050 Composed by Tradittional Welsh Tune. Arranged by Brendan Elliget MAGA 537. Folk. Score and parts. 39 pages. BJE Music #6506165. Published by BJE Music (A0.751050). The Ash Grove -The first published version of the tune was in 1802 in The Bardic Museum, a book written by the Welsh harpist Edward Jones. About four years later a version with words appeared, under the name Llwyn Onn. It tells of a sailor's love for Gwen of Llwyn. At the end of the song, Gwen dies, and in one version of the piece, the writer talks about him mourning and that she is lying 'neath the shades of the lonely ash grove. The tune might be much older, as a similar air appears in The Beggar's Opera by John Gay (1728), in the song Cease Your Funning. [Wikipedia]This arrangement is for the Concert Band with most instruments getting a turn at playing this well-known melody.Grade = 3.5 Duration = 2:34 minsThe MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer 3.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1223586 Composed by Welsh Folk. Arranged by David Evan Thomas. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Sacred,Traditional. Score. 4 pages. Davidevanthomas.com #819741. Published by davidevanthomas.com (A0.1223586). “Calon Lân†is surely one of the best loved of Welsh songs. It was written as a hymn in the 1890s by Daniel James and John Hughes under the bardic name of “Gwyrosydd,†but has since attained the status of a folk song. It is frequently sung at matches of the Welsh rugby union by both fans and players, making the stadium resound!David Evan Thomas's arrangement for solo piano places the tune in a sonorous key with simple arpeggiated figuration. The meaning of the text is clear: I ask for a happy heart, an honest heart, a pure heart..
